JOHAN MJALLBY reckons Celtic could have found the new William Gallas or Marcel Desailly with young Victor Wanyama.

The Kenyan has won his work permit appeal to join the Hoops in a £1million deal from Belgian club Germinal Beerschot.

Wanyama, 20, can play in midfield but Neil Lennon believes he has the pace and the power to cut it in defence.

Hoops No2 Mjallby said: "I have seen flashes of him on video but haven't yet seen him live.

"He looks a talented and strong boy. He's good on the ball and has this wee stroll about him, like a young Gallas or Desailly.

"Right now, he looks more to us like a central defender but he's versatile and the good thing is if we want to change the game we have options."

Mjallby, Sweden skipper at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, reckons Celtic have unearthed two other gems in Kelvin Wilson and Adam Matthews.

Mjallby, who will sign his new deal this week, said: "I always knew more about Kelvin than Adam.

"I went down to Forest with Neil to look at Kelvin playing against Gary Hooper. I saw right away they were both very good.

"Kelvin's good recovery pace will come in handy for us. We need quick centre halves because usually we have two full-backs that need to bomb on."

Mjallby admits Celtic must ship players out before more can come in.

Niall McGinn has already gone and Mjallby said: "We have Jos Hooiveld and Darren O'Dea back training in Glasgow so we have a few central defenders. We need to offload one or two."

Waaadoshhhh! Theres some high praise for the kid. Big Johan knows a defender as well i'd imagine.

    Ship odea
Keep hovield if he shows the ability from his previous years
Don't like loovens think he should have been gone before McManus and Caldwell but if he can keep his form then think about keeping him
Don't know how Josh Thompson done on loan
Keep maj rogne mulgrew Wilson victor

Either way I can't see us buying another centre back have enough competition unless we ship players out. But I am sure Johan and Lennon know what they are doing

    Out must go:

    Hooiveld, Loovens & O'Dea

    That is all.

If Wanyama is going to be deployed as a centre back then we don't need anymore, this includes if we(hopefully) sell Hooiveld and O'Dea.

It would leave us with Wanyama,K.Wilson,Rogne,Majstorovic and Mulgrew as our 5 main centre backs with Lewis Toshney as a number 6 for us and I'd be happy with that.

    Welcome to Paradise Victor!

I'ts a nice touch that he has chosen the number 67 and it's good to see that he is aware of the club's history and is clearly taking a keen interest in our club. I think this can only be a positive. :icon_mrgreen:

Rubbish,I fully expect him and Kelvin Wilson to be our number 1 centre back pairing for the new season.

Hope he makes it here, seems to have a huge amount of potential.

Hopefully he's got enough ability at the moment to do a job for us.

I hope so, just not certain he will get thrown straight into the team. Can see it being Wilson and someone else...not sure who though!
