With the start of pre-season underway & no players in or out, will we see some movement on Lawell's promise - before the start of the Season IN 3 WEEKS time.

I think the signing policy will once again be dictated by what happens in Govan & bringing in a couple of bosmans like Mathews & Wilson will be included in Lawell's promise, along with re-newing Emilio's & Biram's contracts.

We'll struggle to get money back on Rasmussen, Hooiveld, Loovens etc & can probably only hope to loan them out, until their contracts run out.

Will Lawell put his (our) money where his mouth is & sign real squad improvers to go directly into the 1st team?

I don't think he'll get real quality in. His defenition of quality and our defenition of quality are two different things I suspect.

I would be happy with signings like Kayal/Izzy though and it looks like Wanyama could be in the same mould as those two. Cheap, unknown and promising players.

Difficult to judge, even if quality comes they might not settle?

Yeah, I think that he'll know we can't let the huns get 4 in a row or there will be an uproar.

It's Neil Lennon's targets that he'll be trying to sign. We first need to get rid of quite a few of the first team as it's just far too big, can see another 4-6 players leaving either sold or loaned.
We only need 3 players imo and I think we'll see 2 maybe 3 within the next 2 weeks.

It's not all Lawells fault if players don't sign. End of the day Lenny identifies the targets and Lawell tells Lenny the amount he can spend. If a player doesn't want to come, unlucky. If a club (like Newcastle) want to be * and hinder players progress, again unlucky. We can't do much about they circumstances.
But I strongly believe that Lennon wouldn't take the job unless he was assured that he was allowed to get the team he feels is right.

To be honest the reason we havent signed anyone yet is because the transfer window hasn't opened yet?

transfer window is open!

and why are you get yer knicks in a twist? we only really need 3 possibly 4 at a push! plenty of time and we do have a squad in place at the moment that can handle it just now! why panic?

in an ideal world we want to get maybe 5 or 6 out the door and 2 or 3 in on the same total wage. not easy in practice though

I think there will be 2 or 3 new players in by the time the window closes and I'd be surprised if we saw any key players leave.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Also, as far as I know, Lawell never promised signings. His exact words “We just need to maintain what we have got, develop and, over this transfer window, add two or three players to give us that wee bit more quality.” It's tough for a club with our finances to compete in the transfer market and I think people should realise that it's not always possible to get players in that will improve the squad.

No panic mate. :icon_mrgreen:

But the season starts in 3 weeks time & we need to hit the ground running to be prepared for Europe.

Having Wilson & Mathews on board for pre-season is a big boost, for gelling the team.

If we are going to get more players in/out, then it makes sense to do it asap.

We really need to move out the squad fillers, but I can't see us getting our money back on them...this causes us a problem in funding decent replacements - as guys like Loovens, Maloney & to a lesser extent Rasmussen & Hooiveld will have cost us an awful lot in transfers/wages.

I'm all for going for guys like Wanyama & the Mustafa Hair Bear Bunch guy, but they're not going to improve the 1st team & we need a good signing like Boularouz or Boothroyd to really improve the team.

We've let Rangers get 3IAR & they're not really very good.

for many people, if the squad is improved its lennon's doing. if its not, its lawell's doing.

The thing is if we can't get players that will improve the squad then we shouldn't be singing any kind of squad players unless they are young ones like wanyama who are bought for future potential.

We need to adopt a signing policy of players that will improve the first team, not bringing in squad players who are simply a waste of money, if that means just 1 or 2 players then so be it, this window is all about quality over quantity. I believe we may see a surprise or two in the coming weeks ^^

At the start of last season, would you have said the same thing about Iziguirre and Kayal?

No, any LB that played in the World Cup would be a bonus for us.

we need goalkeeper asap, i wouldnt mind waiting too near end off transfer window too add quality, bond be few decent loan players floating bout the can improve first team if we get injuries, cant c anyone gettin into our team at min par goalkeeper,
new gk
wilson maj wilson izzy
brown kayal ledley commons
stokes hooper.
who would anyone replace, if kevin wilson is decent then our central half spot filled, i think maj will benefit from decent central half beside him, lets hope kevin is missing piece off defence, lenny after him for full year so he more likely going be given good chance in first team.
