Celtic full-back Emilio Izaguirre claims he is wanted by Manchester United and that Sir Alex Ferguson has previously been in touch with the SPL club.
Izaguirre joined the Bhoys last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut season in the SPL which culminated in the Honduras international scooping the player of the year awards.
He was recently linked with United's arch-rivals Liverpool and revealed he was 'flattered' by the interest being shown by the Anfield club.
However, he now says that Premier League champions United were keen on a deal in January before Patrice Evra signed a new contract and are set to hold further talks with Celtic next month.
"I am aware that Manchester United and Celtic agreed for a meeting in July," said Izaguirre in Honduras. "We have to see what happens if I stay or I go.
"I have to confirm it's 100% true that Manchester United were following me and were interested in me in January.
"It was Alex Ferguson directly who made contact with the Celtic directors.
"I think it was the time when they didn't close the negotiations with Patrice Evra. As far as I am aware Celtic refused to sell me as we were concentrating on the league.
"Regarding possibilities, I prefer to stay silent as I did when Celtic signed me. This is a job of my agent.
"If I have the chance I welcome the move with open arms. If that is the case I will thank * and I will take my opportunity."
Celtic boss Neil Lennon, meanwhile, insists there has been no approach for Izaguirre or Israel midfielder Beram Kayal.
Lennon said in the Daily Record: "You're always going to get speculation about your best players. I understand that.
"But there's been no interest expressed in Beram or Emilio and I've had no one on the telephone enquiring about any other player if it comes to that.
"Every player has his price but I'm not prepared to sell my better ones and Emilio certainly comes into that category."

No where in the article does he promise to sign them just that he thinks he will be able to convince them to sign

welcomed news by all Tims. personally, if Man Utd do come in with a £10m bid for Izaguirre, i'll be happy. £10m would go a long way to boosting the overall quality of our squad.

No where in the article does Lennie "promise" signatures, how could he. ? Like everyone else i will be delighted if two of the finest players at Celtic, and in Scotland, sign extensions but......... it s not beyond the realms of possibility that the same crap paper could be looking forward to headlines such as "Lennon fails to keep promise "!!!!!! Patience needed ..HailHail

Lennon hopeful of keeping key duo
    Jun 26 2011
Celtic manager Neil Lennon will aim to convince sought-after duo Emilio Izaguirre and Beram Kayal to sign new deals during the upcoming tour of Australia.
Izaguirre claimed on Saturday that Manchester United had made an approach for him while Kayal has been linked with Liverpool and Valencia.
"We've opened preliminary talks with Kayal's people," the Northern Irishman told the Sunday Scottish Mail. "He knows I want to keep him and he's making the right noises about staying. That's great news. It's the same for Izaguirre."
He added: "Going to Australia on tour this week will give me the chance to sit down with Beram.
"I'll need to sit down with Beram, look him in the eye and get a feel for what he's thinking. He knows I have his best interests at heart."
Lennon believes both players will benefit from remaining at Celtic Park, although he admits keeping them would be difficult should a top-four Premier League club come knocking.
"I can help them progress. They have the supporters on their side and a great affiliation with them. They would struggle to get that at many other clubs," he added.
"I'm sure there are Premiership clubs that could offer them better deals but at this stage of their careers money shouldn't be that important.
"There is no need for them to rush off and go to the Premiership just yet. They can stay here a year or two and then look at things after that.
"My whole point to them will be that unless it's a top-four club in England then I don't think there are many better places to be than here."

he Honduran has claimed that English champions Manchester United were interested in a deal in January, while Liverpool have also been linked with a move. But Celtic manager Neil Lennon said on Sunday that he hoped Izaguirre, and Beram Kayal, would sign an extension to his current deal, which expires in three years.
And the Parkhead boss has now been boosted by the words of the representative of Scotland's double Player of the Year from last season.
Izaguirre's adviser, Marco Tulio Suazo, said in the Daily Record: "I can tell all the fans of the club that Emilio has the sole mission of not lowering the level that made him the best foreigner in the Scottish Premier League.
"Emilio has the plan of fulfilling the contract that still binds him to Celtic as an alleged sale to England, at this moment in time, is not a reality."

looks like the Bhoy is staying:50:
