To say we're are the 2nd most supported club is a bit of an exaggeration, to say we have thebest fans, isn't. Wouldn't look too much into this though.

    willie maley...the shebeen version
had a bit of digging on google but cant find definitive answer...............

according to 442 magazine and uefa.com the top five in each are as follows

    Supporters clubs

    Glasgow Celtic
    Glasgow Rangers
    Juventus Turin
    Liverpool
    Barcelona

    Replica Shirt Sales

    Barcelona
    Real Madrid
    Chelsea
    Manchester United
    Liverpool

    Matchday Attendances

    Borrussia Dortmund
    Flamengo
    Fenherbahce
    Manchester United
    Glasgow Celtic
    (where is Barca and Madrid?)

and according to a survey in the times newspaper 2006

    Man United
    Real Madrid
    Celtic
    Liverpool
    Barcelona
    Arsenal
Chelsea (BBC site said fan base increased by 18 million last year alone)
    AC Milan
    Juventus
    Bayern Munich

still none the wiser though!! think i read sometime ago also we had 9million fans official worldwide but it could be up to 33million in north america due to immigration etc

The thing that looks good for us is that the team above or below us on any list have better players, more cash are winning the CL once a decade, etc:56:

So put everyone on a level playing field and we would rise pretty * near the top.

I think i read somewhere that in terms of registered supporters/supporters clubs we are third in the world behind Benfica and Man Utd. However clubs like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool etc will all have bigger fanbases worldwide than we do, considering they'll be better known throughout the world with their european success.

That's because they need to use a big number of seats to divide both sets of supporters at Celtic Park. Bearing in mind that the Rangers and Celtic fans share the same stand, whereas at Ibrox, we get our own stand.

Youve misunderstood what i said, im meaning OF games are the only games we have managed to fill the stadium to near enough capacity in the last few years whereas games against the other SPL teams weve been getting round the 50'000 mark if were lucky.

It's all down to the quality of opposition though. I must admit, I don't always look forward going along to Parkhead every second weekend to watch the likes of Hamilton and St Mirren myself.

The last few homes of the season just past though had some great attendances. Dundee United and Motherwell both drew in the region of 57,000, much higher than your average Premiership attendance (outside of the big four).

Us, the dark side and Man U are the 3 most supported clubs in world. The OF have the appeal due to Scots/Irish all over the world taking their religious choice of club with them wherever they go. Man u down to history. In general ex pat europeans are more fervent abt their national sides whereas we take Celtic or Rancid.

I think we have also made massive strides in past few years expanding our brand in new places that the Scots/Irish didn't go to in mass numbers..China, Korea, Mexico. I think that we wld be the 2nd most supported after man u. Our 'Catholic' leaning/foundations appeal to the vast majority of the world population.

I doubt there are as many barca/Juve/ ac/bayern supporters clubs in sth africa/oz/US.......mix any choices there and I think we will have more.

Celtic represents the Irish diaspora world-wide; there are also many thousands of us who have emigrated to other countries from Scotland, and for whom Celtic means so much. Man Utd is just a football club; Celtic is much more than that.

The Huns are nowhere near it.

    It’s not the 'OF'

The Huns are only famous because they share a rivalry with us. If it wasn’t for the rivalry they would be pretty unknown. In fact, Hugh Adam a former Rangers director makes the point quite well:-

To be honest I find the whole debate laughable. I mean what does it matter if we have 5 million or 20 million glory hunters or customers?

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, Bayern, Manchester United are successful teams, always in the Champions League and watchd by billions. Success brings "fans". They have far more glory hunters and customers than we do.

In areas where football ain't as important than in Europe for example you only get to see the biggest and best -> champions league or EPL, Primera Division etc.

Frankly I don't really care or give a * about these glory hunters. All what I care is if our home and away fans, who attend games, are passionate and loud. Our away fans have been excellent as far as I can think back - our home fans have been pretty poor and even * lately until this season.

I don't think we are the 2nd biggest supported club in the world. What I do think is that we have the most unique history in the world.
