99 % of football songs per se are offensive. Burnley song solely about Burnley will be offensive to Blackburn fans, Dunfermline songs are offensive to Cowdenbeath fas etc. The tribal nature of football will alway ensure there is offence caused to opposing fans, irrespective of Celtic and rangers more complex relationship.

Very few of our songs can be described as Sectarian however such is the almost frantic attempts by the establishment to draw parallels between ourselves and them they seem determined to draw us into this "which songs to sing" argument.

We should resist this robustly to ensure our Irish identity and more specifically our Irish Republican traditions are kept

If anyone denies our Republican heritage they are wrong. Anyone who attended CP during the war should have no such illusions. Our fans were very vocal in our support for the IRA. It seems strange now the IRA are in Government, we choose now to stop the songs and support!!!

The crowds at Celtic games during WW2 were tiny as in a couple of thousand.
Half of the young men attending would have be wearing a British Army uniform.
Unlike those nice people in the Belfast shipyards who were on double time, Glasgow punters were called up.

If you ask me, calling someone an orange * is more anti sectarian than sectarian, if they share the same views as the Orange Order i suppose. The OO will not let you join if you're catholic or are related to a cathoilic, you will no longer be a member if you attend a catholic wedding or a catholic funeral etc so the OO is a sectarian organisation. Calling someone who shares their views an orange * is just like calling someone in the KKK a racist * and imo there is nout wrong with that.

Let's just clear up the word sectarian here though, it means Hatred against a religion and whilst some of our songs might be offensive as they mention the IRA they are certainly not sectarian by any means. However I do believe that the mentioning of the IRA should stop as we are being accused of being sectarian for it and I do not want to be tarred with the same brush as that lot. Whilst we know the truth the rest of the world might not

Was George Galloway not sued for defamation for calling the Orange Order a "sectarian, anti-catholic, protestant supremacist organisation"...the judge found that it was fair comment on them and dismissed the case.

The pope gave King Billy troops because he fought King James was a bit of a idiot. King Billy's troops would have carried Papal flags into battle.

How could they target us? If I went to a Hibs game and started singing about the American Army or the French Army. No one would be offended or care. Its only because its songs about the IRA people in this racist country get annoyed.

Anyone who thinks we sing bigoted or sectarian songs should go and look at what the club is printing in their official magazine regarding that particular definition, back page of the latest edition :celt_2:

I think the difference there though is that they are proper armies governed by their own country where as the IRA are seen as a so-called terrorist group around the world

Well then my views should count equally and heroes who fought and died for their country shouldn't be insulted. With people who don't know anything about history calling the IRA terrorist.

If I called the people who fought in the American War Of Independance terrorists. I would get shot down. Equally we should shoot down people who try and call people who fought in the Irish War Of Independance "terrorist".
