Did Martin McGuinness or any member of the IRA ever play for Celtic? Please answer the question.

I agree let the people sing but when they sing about something that has nothing to do with football or celtic and it harms celtic then I think its best not sung.

Its a stupid question. We are singing about Irish history. Ireland and its history are part of this club.

So * the Queen, and by the IRA do you just mean 'P I P I P I R A' from the other night which was a one off, or do you mean things like Boys of The Old Brigade, Roll of Honour and Celtic Symphany too?

Nothing wrong with singing about the IRA. If you have a problem attend the games and tell these evil fans that are damaging the club to stop.:50:

So Celtic were founded by Brother Walfrid to finance Irish Republicanism. You learn something new every day!!

Celtic should be associated with Ireland, Irish culture and Irish history. The IRA were heroes the won Irish freedom. Whats wrong with singing songs about are heroes.

I think all IRA related tunes should be confined to the dustbin.

People have a valid point when they say "we would need to stop the IRA chants and songs if we ever want to get in the English leagues" but aside from that i believe we should stop them at the games period. Not because i think they are wrong, or immoral. They are simply in appropriate at the games. I myself, like a lot of Celtic fans, take issue when people try and say that it is against the law to sing them or that it is morally wrong to sing them or that they are sectarian. Absolute nonsense. I reserve the right to play them, sing them and enjoy them. That is my right and i don't have any qualms about doing so but i can understand that they offend some people and there is a time and a place for them. We have to understand that in life, Certain things are appropriate in some situations and certain things aren't. Certain things are in your best interests to do in some situations and certain things aren't. Singing IRA songs at the match will do us no favours whatsoever. It will simply do us harm. I don't care about the bigots and Rangers fans who are offended by them but i do care how it is perceived in world football and especially England. No matter how you look at it, England wouldn't want a group of fans who sing pro IRA songs and more than they would want the FTP brigade from across the city. They will see it as one and the same. A helluva lot of people down there who lost loved ones would also find it deeply offensive. The same way Nationalists in the north of Ireland would find it offensive if English people went over there singing songs about paratroopers on * Sunday etc. It is about what is appropriate. You wouldn't have a Republican march in Larkhall. Why? Because rightly or wrongly it would cause offence therefore it is simply wouldn't be appropriate.

We have to accept that there will be people who will take issue with these songs but try and get away from thinking that by not singing them, you are somehow admitting that they are morally wrong and look at it more as realising that a football match in not an APPROPRIATE place for these songs. If we really cared about our football club, we would refrain from singing these songs and handing the media, and other people with agendas, a stick to beat us with.

I love Irish rebel songs as much as the next guy. My cousins play in a RFB. I was brought up around Irish music and understand what they're all about. I also understand what people's common misconceptions about them are and i take issue with people who call them sectarian without actually knowing the words to the songs and what they're about but as i've gotten older, i have come to realise when the right time is to listen, sing them and appreciate them and when it's the wrong time. A football stadium is the wrong time IMO.

And what's right about it? We're a football club. Sing about the heroes who brought glory to the team, the heroes that made Celtic a name recognised throughout the World. Stop giving fannies like Traynor, Leckie et al the ammunition to attack the club.

Some people on here are adopting a no one like us and we don't care type of attitude and I thought that belonged to the knuckledraggers at Ibrox.
