Letter bomb threat lawyer Paul McBride to defend Rangers star Kirk Broadfoot on assault rap

May 9 2011 By Tom Hamilton

LETTER bomb QC Paul McBride is to defend a Rangers star on an assault rap.
The top lawyer, who recently acted for Celtic manager Neil Lennon, has been hired by Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot.
Broadfoot, 26, is to stand trial tomorrow at Ayr Sheriff Court.
The footballer, from Ballochmyle, Ayrshire, is accused of being part of a mob said to have laid siege to a flat in Ayr on May 29 last year.
He is also charged with punching a man on the face.
McBride recently represented the other side of the Old Firm when he acted for Neil Lennon during his appeals against disciplinary action by the SFA.
He also made a series of verbal attacks on the SFA over their handling of various matters relating to Celtic.
Following his comments and high-profile TV and radio appearances, McBride was sent a letter bomb.
The device - capable of blinding anyone who opened it - was sent to his offices in Edinburgh but was intercepted at a sorting office in Ayrshire.
Similar intercepted devices were sent to Lennon and Celtic fan MSP Trish Godman.
McBride has been drafted in to defend Broadfoot by Liam O'Donnell, a Glasgow-based solicitor who is the criminal lawyer for the Professional Football Association Scotland, the players' union.
Broadfoot is not the first Rangers star to seek out the services of McBride.
Last year, Ibrox keeper Alan McGregor turned to the QC when he was accused of a * attack.
The case was dropped when prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence.
McBride is also acting for Dundee United star David Goodwillie, 21, who faces a rape allegation made by a woman following a New Year house party in West Lothian.
The QC was not available for comment last night.
But a football source told the Record: "Paul's record as the best defence QC in the country is unrivalled.
"It is no wonder his services are sought after not only by both sides of the Old Firm, but by anyone who wishes to mount the most vigorous defence of their reputation."

Didn't he also defended Goodwillie and McGregor against rape allegations?

Guy's obviously a great lawyer, but all this hype about him representing us in SFA cases was over the top. He does it for money and he clearly does it well.

Thats what lawyers do. No scruples.

I didn't jump on the Paul McBride "our hero" band wagon TBH.
In it to line his pocket and the more publicity a lawyer gets, the better.

Nothing wrong with that I suppose but he got well paid for representing Lenny, so it
was far from a moral crusade in his part. :shamrock:

Another non story by the Scottish Media, a celtic fan in his professinal capacity working with or on behalf of a Rangers fan/player. How unusual is that?:32::32::32:

Might be a tougher case for Mr Mcbride, this is the second (possibly 3rd time) Boadfoot has appeared in court on these charges. He got done for assualt while playing for St Mirren, the egg might be spending time at Kilmarnocks finest Hotel if it goes wrong for him.

Posted a link to this in the wrong place...there was a thread "hunskelper Paul McBride" I put it in there.

I also heard that he was approached by Rangers to represent them agaisnt UEFA but, after some days of consideration he rejected it.

Some people on here were hailing him as if he were a Lisbon Lion and calling for him to lift trophies with the bhoys. This man is doing his job, a job that, more often than not, has him defending the indefensible.

I agree, its not as if he is going to be petty and not represent them because they play for a specific football team

Can't blame him at all he's only trying to earn a living, although I would be * off if i was the guy who's flat was terrorised and i knew for a fact stupid Broadfoot was there.

Sometimes I hate lawyers, I've always wondered how you could defend a rapist or a paedophile when you know clearly their guilty and it's your job to get them off. Money or not I couldn't do it and I don't know how they could live with themselves if a rapist walked away and then went and raped someone else. I think I would just refuse to represent some people to be honest.
