Why doesn't Sammy play like this anymore?

Samaras like most players have the odd good game , but to be brutally honest he is a bad player , an awful first touch , no pace , and never knows when to release the ball , we just cant seem to get rid of him

 

Plays better when we go to a more direct game looking to hit teams on the counter. Doesn't do the quick passes and link up that Hooper and Stokes bring but as a lone striker he is good at spearheading the attack. His ability to pick balls out of the air and run with it is very useful in games where we need to bring players back to draw oppositions onto us and hit them on the counter. Just 4-4-2 has never really suited his style of play some of his best games for us came when maloney played off of him. He is not a bad player however I would probably go with Hooper and Stokes just so we can humiliate the manky mob on Sunday.

 

When? Apart from the January game, when, to be honest R*****s were rank and gave him the run of the park he has been * poor. Doesnt link up, doesnt track back, doesnt work hard, though will occasionally do the odd slide tackle "for the fans". He doesnt fool me. His demeanour is often one of couldnt be arsed. Im positive that if we had stuck with Stokes and Hooper since January, the league would be out of sight.

For those that say Sammy played well in January, by the same token he was * in the League Cup final. And that is his problem. He is not consistent.

I cant honestly remember him having a decent game other than the Jan game.

 

Combination of things i think.

1. Needs to be in the mood.

Too many times he comes on and within the first min or two i can tell how he is going to play just by how up for it he looks.

2. There has to be space for him to run into.

When teams park the bus or at least sit a little deeper against us it doesnt suit him as he needs the space. He is surprisingly quick for a big guy!

3. I think he knows when the crowd arent happy with him and he needs to feel loved i think.

He doesnt get a few mistakes before everyone is screaming at him, its one misplaced pass or poor touch and people are abusing him!

I do like him but he frustrates me so much at times, i put that down to the fact that i KNOW he can do it, he just doesnt always show it. Hooper and stokes for me up front on sunday with maybe bringing sammy on 2nd half once we have some tired huns he can get in behind.

 

He has no confidence but who can blame him the amount of abuse he gets.

 

What abuse? You mean occasional booing?? FFS!! He is on a wage that we can only dream of. Why do Stokes Hooper Commons etc not get booed??

They score goals, they play well most of the time. They are fairly consistent.

Perhaps when Sammy with the big wage does that then he will be booed less.

And another thing, when he did have his one good game this season, he was lauded as a hunskelper, a * and the next Henrik Larsson. Not worked out that way as he has reverted to the player he was prior.

ie Not that special.

 

He was amazing in Holland before Man City signed him. I think that move shattered his confidence before we even signed him.

 

A bit like McCourt then nothing gets said about him. Can't remember what game it was but it was quite a recent game Samaras was warming up as he ran past the Jock Stein Stand he was booed.

Exactly, also he is often hesitant to take the shot and will often choose to pass instead, I think his time under mowbray where he played mostly as a winger effected him

 

I dont believe you. In fact I would say that is pish. I sit in the North Stand, not too far from the JS Stand and have not heard any booing when players have been warming up. In fact the reason we usually know people are warming up is because of the applause.

 

Sammy has not got worse how maney games he started this season in the spl? 2 goals against the huns at new year 2 bigest goals this year ! samy to start on sunday he loves playn against the huns !! he and ledley where the only players who turned up in the cupfinal

He is with the exception of Cha, probably the quickest player in our team

 

no sammy no goal. Sammy created the Ledley goal with a flick on, but whatever... discount it anyway you can if it doesn't support your argument

 

haha, wish he hadn't turned up, one of the few players that actually put in a shift during the cup final, but aye we would have been better off without him.

 

Samaras was crap in the Cup Final. 3 league goals in 14 months.......no thanks.
