    Me and my m8 at work are having a debate on why Gary Hooper's squad number!!!

    Can anybody clear up why he has the number 88!!!!!!

    More like we won a Rolex factory!! Great player. It's amazing to think that we signed Hooper, Kayal and Izzaguirre for more or less the same price the huns payed for that * Laugherty.

    As for his number, its the year himself and Celtic were born. I like it, it's unique.

    he wasnt "88" at scunthorpe. he was "8" brown had "8" so he opted for "88" as it was year he was born and probably with advice of clever marketing people at the club. year he was born, year club was born and the nickname hoops and his name hooper.

    "H" is the 8th letter of the alphabet and he chose it because 88 or "HH" gives recognition to the person he idolised most when he was growing up.. "Hail Henrik"..

    88 was the year he was born, he picked as his shirt number so he could get into nightclubs by just showing them his jersey to prove his age.
