Samaras: We want to repay 'unbelievable' fans.

Hopefully the level of support and backing the players have received lately continues, whether we win, lose or draw. Well done to everyone in attendance recently and for helping create an amazing atmosphere over the past few weeks, more of the same is needed. Backing from the stands can make a huge difference and the players are acknowledging that.

DURING Celtic’s recent 3-0 win over Rangers, Georgios Samaras did something he had never done before when involved in a game of football. Kris Commons had just struck the Hoops’ third goal of the game in the 70th minute and the ball was at the other end of the field from the Greek striker.

Normally that wouldn’t have made any difference to his focus on the match but such were the scenes around him, he found himself pausing for a few seconds and transferring his gaze away from the action to survey what was happening in the stands around him.

What greeted him was a sight and a sound he has never experienced in his career, as the entire home support jumped up and down in jubilation before embarking on an impromptu mass huddle.

It was just another reminder to Samaras about how special a club Celtic are, and he insisted that this kind of backing would inspire the whole team to deliver some silverware at the end of the season.

“This is my fourth season here at Celtic and I have to say that was the best atmosphere I have ever seen in my life,” he told the matchday programme in an exclusive interview. “It was even better than Champions League nights. It was something unbelievable.

“To be honest, it wasn’t just me as I chatted with some of my team-mates after the game about it. I caught myself for a few seconds in the game just looking at them instead of the game. I was like ‘What’s going on here’.

“The ball was down the other side and I was looking around me. Normally, I never do that as I stay focused on the game, even if the atmosphere is good or bad. But it was the only time in my life that the crowd just struck me. It was unbelievable. I saw some clips on YouTube later on and they were even better.

“To see 50,000 people doing a big huddle and jumping up and down in the stands - I have never seen anything like that in my life.

“You might see it in Greece, Spain or Italy where you have the Tifosi – the really fanatic fans who sing from the first to the last minute. But this was the whole stadium.

“We, the football players, know that and everybody knows how special a club this is, and we're all working really hard to bring some success and win some trophies again – something we didn’t do last year.

“And the supporters must realise how big they can be and how much they can help us, not just in derby games. I know it’s not possible every week but I hope they can be with us in every game and we can do it on the pitch for them.”

 

I've not seen cp as mental as it's been recently and I've supported Celtic for 28 years so I can only imagine the effect it has on the players.

Sammy has always loved Celtic and the fans but I think he's seen a new level this year and I beleive he will be a bigger better player for it..

Fans have been amazing!! Hope the players realize it's because of THEM. They are why it's soooo good right now and players such as Sammy can really be proud of that.

 

This is just what we need. The fans inspire the players and the players will continue to inspire the fans. The oppisite to a vicious circle.

 

The whole atmosphere around the club has changed recently and the players are noticing it, long may it continue

Celtic Park has went back to what it used o be like! as sammy says its not just 1 group its the whole stadium, i sat in 404 for the cup game v the anty football team, and every one no matter what age, gender, with family ect was bouncing.

There's been posts on here for years now saying that the old Celtic Park atmosphere had been lost forever.

Not seeing any of those threads anymore!

Between the manager, the team, the Green Brigade, and all the fans, the whole place has been transformed.

 

This bit made me * myself laughing. Sammy of all players, I love him to bits but he looks spaced out 100% of the time.

 

That is quality. True as well, there was a minute on Wednesday were I just took a look around and thought '* *'

 

The thunder has definitely been brought back by Lenny, no doubt. It was amazing and unbelievable at the same time when I just seen everyone erupting into the chorus of JCGE and then doing the mass huddle. Not seen Celtic Park like that in a long, long time, not even in the days of MON was there such an atmosphere. I've been a CP regular since 1992.

And it's not just the fans.

We've got a number of very good players here, who will undoubtedly be in demand from clubs in the world's wealthiest leagues.

But the atmosphere we've got going here, there's no club in Britain can match.

Those players will seriously be asking themsleves - "Do I really want to leave this behind? Because I might never have the opportunity to experience this kind of feeling again for the rest of my life."

 

Thats a great point i really hope players like izzy and kayal are noticing how big this club is and what it means to us the fans.It could have a huge bearing on weather they want to stay or go in the summer

kayal will be staying, i saw him at the end on wednesday night. that boy is going nowhere fast.

 

I hope the fans keep it up for every game because every game is important now
