Don't get me wrong, I support Celtic through thick and thin, and we had some great times under WGS.

It's just I can't help but feeling a closer bond to individual players in our current side, than the mainstays of 5 years or so ago. I know there is a risk of getting carried away because we are flying at the minute but i'd like to hear if anybody else feels the same way???

I'm starting to think that history is going to look back even worse on 3 of the back 4 of that team than they werein reality (NAylor, McManus, Caldwell)

I say they couldn't have been that bad because Strachan's sensational European achievements. But those 3 were pretty dislikeable and error prone (although I had a bit of a soft spot for Caldwell, limited as he was)

Furthermore the buying power back then seemed skewed against midfielders. Where the * has Lennon (or whoever responsible) plucked Kayal and Ledley from to go with the now blossoming Ki (ahem TM signing).

Such a battling, creative 3 plus Broony makes for good watching. Hooper also looks like he can go on to being twice the player of McDonald.

In key areas Lennon's got the luxury of vast improvements, whether we can credit him and blame Strachan or if in both cases was down to PL, his spending power, and circumstance.

Either way, I'm going to have to bite my tongue here until Lennon makes progress in Europe (and takes home 3/4 titles) as clearly there's massive potential in this squad. Just goes to show that sometimes attitude and (forgive me) 'the celtic way' lends such massive positivity towards the manager almost regardless of trophies.

Naw. I find it easier to connect with 3 in a row, 3 CL campaigns, 2 last 16 and several cups than I do with 2 good months and zilch. Not saying they wont win lots in future but its way premature to put them above our 3 in a row years.

I agree with you. It is easy. Perhaps that's due too them being full of youthful vigorance and it's got a sweeping effect through the support.

Not actually sure why I feel a deeper connection if I'm honest because the wgs teams had some real winners and a few class players.. But you make a sound point.

Absolutely, probably due to the fact Strachan filled his team with huns, mercenaries and mediocrity.

    Aye.

A lot more fan favourites and exciting players than Strachan had and they play the Celtic way and win in style.

I know what you mean, but i fear we may be getting a bit carried away with our selves. The football on offer is brilliant compared to the drivel we had with WGS.

It's surprising how many people think this. Wrong of course.

You missed the point of the op.

He's asking if you connect too the 3inarow team less than the current team. Regardless of trophies I and pos a lot more can connect with the current team based purely on the style on offer and their general mannerisims and personality.

The players on Lennon's team are all fighting for every point. They are going to war every time they step on the pitch. They also seem to understand what in means to play for Celtic. This is why I find it easier to connect with them.

Couldnt agree more. Some of the shitiest football I have ever seen at CP came during Strachans time in charge.

I will await the usual yeah but....he won us trophies but... CL...but but but. But it was * to watch!!! Ok. * fact.

I have connected well with Lennon. A manager who shows the respect for our club, players and fans that Strachan was unable to.

Strachan rightly has his place in history. Would give me no greater pleasure than to watch Neil Lennon carve out his own success.

Yea, man thats what I was getting at. I wasn't wanting a discussion about who is better, but more about who is more likeable.

For me, I think it comes down to a few factors:

    A) Our current side in undoubtedly more entertaining (regardless of success)

    B) They are the product some excellent scouting work! Gives you hope in times when Man City etc are destroying what it means to be a supporter!

    C) The likes of Hooper, Kayal, Ledley etc seem to have fallen in love with a club that otherwise wasn't there own!

    D) They are all roughly my age - They could quite as easily be mates I go to the pub with!

I think it's much easier to connect and it's down to Lenny. After the games the players are over applauding and usually (ATM anyway touch wood) celabrating with us. Under WGS it was a quick clap and up the tunnell.

If WGS played to the support more (not saying it's not coming from Lenny's heart) I think he'd have been accepted by a lot more people. I remember when BTM came in thinking that he connected more with the fans in his first couple of weeks (remember the letter he sent us all) that WGS did in his four years. Shame it didn't work out on the park for the big man.

I'm not slating WGS - he did the job; but the way Lenny is doing it is making it easier to connect with all of them.

Happy times - let's keep it going.

That's what I think is driving them and us. I feel it's the youth of the team that's impacting on us fans.

It's easy too like a team full of guys who are fun yet very skilled and very focused.

Hooper grabbing the ball boy was a moment aswel lol the team are loving the fans an it rubs off. (actually stated a couple of things there lol but yous get the general picture)

anyway. I can only imagine what winning cups ect will do too us fans and the players when hints are at a high now... Something amazing is creeping about in the shadows I think.

Strachan's football wasn't the prettiest but he was very successful, i have high hopes for our current squad as there are some world class players that are only getting better, just like there was in Strachan's team and Artur Boruc, Shunsuke Nakamura, Aiden McGeady ? Have you forgotten them or something ? And considering we scored in the last seconds countless times, was that not exciting ? And to be honest i am connecting better with this team but i think that's because they have so much passion in them and are always getting the support excited, they have changed the atmosphere for the better, let the good times continue ! :50:

I don't think it's particularly to do with the age of the squad, I just think it's the really obvious thing - we happen to have a number of likeable guys in the team.

Ledley and Hooper just seem like nice guys, Ki and Cha seem fun & a bit nutty, Emilio and Kayal seem honest & committed. The captain likes to horse about and be a bit of a heider. And the coaching staff all have a good relationship and a pleasant demeanour, which rubs off too I think.

Perhaps the Twitter thing has also enabled a bit of extra communication of character etc. I think, unlike some other more traditional managers, Lenny kind-of encourages internet communication. Within quite a short time of his appointment he was setting up his own website etc...

I just love seeing Lenny come out at the end and give big hugs and high fives to everyone and they all return them with big smiles. It's obvious they're all enjoying themselves every week and that rubs off on us, the fans.
