Josh Thompson

Young guy who came it a difficult time and did a decent job. Scored a couple of goals as well. Not a starter, but would have no problem with him being a part of the squad. At 20years old, his best years are still to come. I dont recall him ever letting us down.

 

One of the few players i would give pass marks to in the Mowbray era, given time and Mjallby's defensive know how i think it could be a good signing

he was our best CB last season which isnt saying much but he is only 19 and is obviously one for the future and him not startingat Rochdale has more to do with salary than form they have to pay his full salary every time he starts and they are broke, their best striker only plays every other game. Thompson is still part of the England U-19 setup and I think most of the people on here saying we should punt him are the same ones who said punt KI and Rogne at the start of the season. They are too impacient and do not understand that footballers especially defenders need time to grow and mature. He has already shown he can play at the SPL level and that was at the age of 18. give the lad a chance

 

and he is still 19, his birthday is actually tommoroww and he will then turn 20

 

Interesting range of views. I forgot he existed until I watch some highlights of us beating the huns 2-1 last May.

On a different note is anyone else aware that only 3 of the starters this day are still at the club? And one of them is Hinkel who is basically waiting to fall out the exit door.

 

he looked decent enough last season, but honestly don't know if he'll cut it at the hoops.

 

He did play decent for an 18 y/o last year. Problem is, he is stuck behind a good group going forward.

Maybe loan him out next season again and make a determination on him in a few years...

 

he is a poor player lads, yes he is young but look at his lack of pace for a man his age, imagine how slow he will be in his mid 20's when he had a bit more muscle weighing him down. His positioning is poor and know that will improve with time and experience but he really isnt very good. He can win a header as he showed against hibs last season but he isnt ruthless in the tackle and just hits long balls due to average/poor ball control at his feet. Will get our money back on him but no more, hope that sums him up. wish him all the best for the future though
