NL at Presser made the point several times that he was a "great admirer" of Shane Long. He hope's club can meet Reading's valuation. Hmmm..

 

Interesting. I'd be really disappointed if we went above £3 Mil for a largely unproven championship player in the final year of his contract. As for £7 million: ludicrous valuation.

More interesting id the fact that none of these clubs have actually made a bid - possibly as they view things as we do - last year of contract, one really good season, not done much on the international stage... It's just too much of a risk for the sort of money we've been discussing more recently.

I think we need to have a 'let's be honest and stop the silly stuff' sort of chat with Reading and this could happen.

Perhaps Murphy & Rasmussen could be offered as makeweights, as both would probably do ok at that level. I would say Sami but don't think he would drop to the Championship...

was the 7 million bid not from West Ham, a team also in the championship, which would be considered competition to gain entry to the Premiership.
i wouldn't sell one of my best players to a top 4 scots premier team, that will rival us for the league., why would Reading?

 

If lenny is talking about him in any great detail which he apparently was, then reading must have given some sort of indication that they are willing to take something lower than the £7M quoted. Hopefully he's a Celtic player soon.

 

Thats fair enough, but we arent going to pay more than £4m, absolute tops. And no club in the championship will turn down £3m just to avoid selling to another team in the same league.

They either dont want to sell him, or want more money. Shane Long wont be coming here. Im sure of that.

 

Pre contract January is possible...Doubt he will be sold for silly money or anything like that..there's a deal here to be done and hes a better option long term than the others mentioned on possible loan deals.

 

i agree with all of this, am i rite in saying he has only had one prolific season?
however i think we would have more chance of getting bellemy unless interest from other clubs cools. i doubt reading would want to sell their prize asset to west ham which could work in our favour.

West Ham and West Brom already shown there hands with bids 3rd club from what i have found out is Liverpool.

 

Seen Shane play a lot for Ireland and would love to see him come to Celtic. He's a well grounded lad, wears his heart on his sleeve and give a 100% every time he plays.

He is well worth the gamble and looks like the obvious replacement for Keane at international level, so if it doesn't work out (hopefully not) he will still attract interest from the English premier/1st division if we need to recoup our money.

 

Lennon can talk about Long all he wants the player will not be coming here at all we can not afford the type of fee to buy him .
