    ok ..please only post in here if you do know what im talking about, dont want to be smart..but i really do need to get to the bottom of a particular problem here.

    ok..2001 Puegout partner van, 2.0 HDI.

    whining from the drivers wheel area, replaced the outer wheel bearing, no good...:54: replaced the inner carrier bearing on the drive shaft...no good..same...:54: replaced the gearbox for a year younger and less miles one...no good...:54:

    it is the drivers side because when i jack it up and drive it..there is no noise worth a * from the other...when i replaced the bearings..the drive looked in good nick...but im going to replace the drive again to see if it will make diff...so any tips guys..???:54:

    when does it whine mate?

    does it do it when your driving straight or when turning or even slowing down?

    all the time....clutch in or out!

    the gearbox was a second hand one.

    before doing anything major again, swap the front tyres, if your tracking or camber/caster has been out you might have got uneven wear on the inside of the tyre, this can contribute to wheel noise its worth a shot

    or try this form PEUGEOT questions and answers: find help from - and give help to - other motorists

    hope this helps, i will keep looking this side too :50:

    thanks mate, but i have a mechanic on the job...and we are pretty sure it not the wheels.

    Yeah when you rev the car the whine seams to match the revs, so not the gearbox<<

    ^^^ in my case the revs are fine...only when driving..or free wheeling.

    nope...it new 7000 miles ago:( it not a belt or wheel issue...it is drive based.

    As someone said I think its the differential. Maybe there are some were on one of the gears. (my english isnt that good in auto terms)...

    make sure its not something silly like a sticky calliper ad causing the brakes to squeal even in a freewheel strip them down n give them a good greasing, or if it is gearbox related drop the oil out of the box and see what colour it is make sure there is no metal particles through it, dont kow much about pug's but you can only try..
