Well yeah apparently Real Madrid wanted Murphy to solve their striker crisis because of his innate skill on the ball, blistering shooting ability, classy finishing and incisive passing, which combined with his aerial ability would be a serious upgrade on their current strikers. Only offered £18million with add-ons though so the board told them where to go and they went and got Adebayor on loan instead. Hopefully we get close to the Andy Carroll fee! :84:

four leaf clover, just cant get enough.
Murphy cannot be sold, end of. He is too important to Lenny's plans. Celtic will not be able to regain their place at the top of the league and a force in Europe without Murphy's ability to score goals for fun and make defenders look silly in the process. The man is a human highlight reel. Not for 25 million would I sell him.

Did hear that Zaluska is being lined up to step in at Old Trafford at the cut rate of 12m.

while I totally agree with what you say the problem with this is immigration and work permit laws. they are a lot more easy going in holland and portugal due to some colonial nonsense. holland and portugal are able to get loads of youngsters from brazil, africa etc. without any problems, whereas us here in scotland would never be able to secure a work permit. players have to have certain amount of caps etc. and by the time we could snap up these youngsters they have already been taken by the likes of eindhoven, ajax, porto, sporting, benfica and so on.

on another note the fact that these nations can easily get hold of such talented youngsters in turn means that the eyes of top-club scouts are predominantly on these leagues and not over here, and the competition for those players drives up prices for them in turn and overall raises the price level of players in bespoke leagues...

It has more to do with us not being a selling club in the past.that's why most of Martin oneill team were given new deals at there peak which then took them by a sellable position

Think we should try and keep hold of our good players. Otherwise we will never get anywhere.

See this is the sort of thing that makes me mad.

There's NO WAY we should be letting McGinn go for 10 million. :47:

That's typical Man City, thinking they can poach our best players for buttons...

Perhaps its because of the fact we have not done well in champions league for like 4 years??? Our players could not perform in the big stage for a while now. We can consistently make the group stages of CL every year and give our players the chance to prove themselves, i see no reason why we cannot perform as well as other clubs in the transfer market

Lyon regularly compete, and do well, in the Champions league. Until we get back to that our players will not have the chance to show what they can do and will nto be rated as they play in the SPL.

I don't think we could, simply because the SPL isn't rated. I think Izzy, Hooper and Kayal are all worth £10m+, but I think we'd struggle to get that as a combined fee for the three of them. We just need to be more ruthless when it comes to rejecting weak offers. If the clubs are really interested in our players, then they should be willing to pay larger amounts. Just don't do what the huns did when selling Kenny Miller.

We're in a weak league & haven't done well in europe - so no shop window, other than scouts coming up here & knowing they can get decent players with good potential for next to nothing.
