The Defence

Anyone else notice if big maj makes a mistake early in the game his head goes down a bit n always looks a bit shakey for the rest of the match noticed it at parkhead a few times

 

There is no question our back line has been much improved. Certainly you feel at right back and at center back we can still improve but the guys who are there right now have been doing a very good job lately. To those who point fingers and say well we haven't played anybody I don't buy it. We are playing the same spl teams who were carving us up at times in recent seasons. The defense was taken apart in the first huns game and was much better last time out. Now I think Kayal's return has been a big factor as well. But credit to Rogne and Majstorovic they have developed a pretty decent partnership now that they have had a decent spell in the side alongside each other. Izzy has shown he can defend as well as being lethal going forward while Wilson has overall done a solid job.
Now I don't think anybody is saying we have all our back line problems solved and we are now all set at the back. Far from it. But no doubt for me we have taken some significant strides with our back line.
What happens with Forster in goal remains to be seen. But if we bought him permanently we have a good goalkeeper there who has the potential to develop into a really quality keeper. Right now if he could solve his kicking game that would be huge. At right back Wilson and Cha each in their own way has done a solid job in Hinkel's absense without giving you the feeling that we have real true quality there. Hinkel and Wilson are both out of contract this summer so we have decisions to make there. Izzy at left back has been outstanding and Mulgrew a very solid backup so we are good there. Rogne and Majstorovic have done a good job at center back. Wilson is in on a pre contract. But that still leaves us needing at least 2 more senior center backs you can count on. I think for a club like Celtic you need 5 center backs. Maybe one can be younger and up and coming like Josh Thomson. But that still leaves us needing one more. Assuming we are trying to sell Loovens, Hooiveld and O'Dea and that we do sell them during the summer we should have enough room open up financially that we can work on getting in one more legit center back to strengthen us in that area next summer.

 

We have Kayal now breaking up alot of plays and making life easier for our backline.. I still think we are dodgy from set pieces.. Rogne has been a rock, as has big Dan but I think he lacks concentration at times, infact usually at least once a game he does something that could easily have cost a goal.. Izzy has been our player of the season so far, absolutely immense going forward and at the back! Great find by Celtic, not a fan of wilson atall and can't wait for Cha to come back from the asian cup..

Loaning out hooiveld seems ridiculous though

 

With due respect to other peoples opinions, how can you judge your contentment with our defence, playing against teams with the quality of your Hamiltons etc, most of these players who play against us arent even on a tenth of the wages our guys are on, you want judged while playing against top teams with top players, you want judged in Europe not the SPL, Europe is where you make the money not the SPL, be honest are you confident in our defence shutting out the wee huns on wednesday nite, and remember hearts are no big shots
