Yeah quite a big deal should be made of the fact that todays game was the only game not to have a minutes silence.

Anyone have any insight to why this might be

You do get the odd head-the-ball who has misguided objections to remebrance Sunday and look at it in an overly political way but they really miss the point. Most people are remembering the ordinary folk who volunteered (often niavely-'home by Xmas' etc) and suffered terribly and are not glorifying lost empires etc. IMO, remembrance is pretty anti-war. The ordinary soldiers in WWI were known as 'lions led by donkeys'.

acording to reports on the radio there was no minute silence because the match was played on the 12th and rememberence day is on the 11th, stmirren admitted this was a mistake and a minute silence should have taken place regardless of the date.

Listening to Radio Scotland yesterday the questions were asked as to why there was no minutes silence. The story is that it's not compulsory so St Mirren decided not to have it. When questioned they happened to say it's NOT because it was Celtic we played. Why the * bring Celtic into this cos now it makes you think it was on thier minds?????

Is it me, mountain out of molehill???

If they had said no and left it then fine but no and not because it's Celtic rings alarm bells with me. If your gonna not do something you dont do it full stop, don't bring others into a reason as it then opens cans of worms.

'although i do have relations who fought and died in the war i still wouldn't wear a poppy or any of that nonsense. Where I live its simple, Protestants wear poppys, Catholics dont'

Fair enough Thebhoymalone. Recent history in northern Ireland has meant one side has claimed remembrance as their own. This fact, the inclusion of post-WWII conflicts, the more recent presence of the British army in northern Ireland, the fact that the poppy money goes to the British Legion and also all the royal pomp stuff on TV have all been put to me as reasons why many in northern Ireland are put off on one political side. However, that is not true in Scotland where religion or identity has had little bearing on service over many generations and there is no political differences to confuse the issue. IMO, it is true that the TV version of remembrance should drop the royal stuff and some of the pomp and cermony and show the anti-war aspect more. The documentaries are much better than the televised cermony in this respect.

The Celtic Song so long as Dean Park doesn't sing it.
I guess my temporary signature gives away my thoughts on the matter. :icon_mrgreen:

I wear a poppy for the reasons stated in the other thread, however what I cannot condone or ever like is Scottish and probably Northern Irish Orange twats laying wreaths at the foot of their local Cenotaphs probably as a means to aid in justifying their reasons to be allowed to parade (not on Remembrance Sunday thankfully). I accept all that is said and will not stick my oar in by castigating anyone with a different opinion particularly our Irish members, it's a personal choice although I see no religious barrier in the wearing of the poppy over here.

The red poppy has been hijacked by the unionist communities in Ireland as a tool in their political games. Not big or clever but it is what it is, i can see why ordinary people over there choose not to wear 1 irregardless of what it's supposed to mean or otherwise.
