All eyes are on Emilio Izaguirre but Neil Lennon looks to add depth

Neil Lennon has warned clubs tracking Emilio Izaguirre: You can look – but you can’t touch.
The Honduran defender has proved to be a shrewd piece of business since his £580,000 transfer from Motagua in the summer.
Manchester United, Everton and Aston Villa are all reported to have been watching him in recent weeks, with Toffees boss Davie Moyes and a scout from Villa attending Wednesday’s win over Hearts.
Lennon is aware of the interest, but is not disturbed by this as he is confident Celtic have unearthed a gem and have him securely in their possession on a four-year deal.
He said: “I am not at all concerned other clubs may be looking at him. And I’m not surprised because he is a quality player.
“But, he is our player, and will not be going anywhere.”
Izaguirre has impressed throughout his time at Celtic with his defensive qualities and ability to drag the play forward where his comfort in possession has made him a huge favourite with the fans.
He has also answered those critics who may have doubted his ability to adapt to a different culture and, more importantly, climate as he has gone from strength to strength through one of the harshest winters for years.
Lennon never had any fears about the 24-year-old coping and said: “I think that’s a misnomer with foreign players now.
“Quality players can play anywhere. They are used to playing in the cold or the rain.
“This kid is hungry to play football. When he was out injured, it was breaking his heart.
“He has come back into the team, and he has been fantastic.
“The back four have been resolute for us, and there is real pride about them in keeping clean sheets.”
A record of just one goal conceded in their last eight games has not prevented Lennon from trying to strengthen his back line.
While Izaguirre has finally provided the solution to the left-back problem which so blighted Lennon’s predecessors, the aim is to ensure there is fierce competition for every place in the side.
Lennon believes they are getting there, but added: “We’ve been trying to build that, but it doesn’t happen overnight.
“There are players coming in who have made their mark on the team and we have been absolutely delighted with them.
“It does show the strength of the squad we have.

Right now Emilio's our best player, and by this I mean that he's showing consistency, always is in the starting lineup and playing well. I'm not the only one who thinks this, those are the same thoughts almost every sports commentator in Honduras has.
I hope we can see him play some minutes against Ecuador in La Ceiba.
A question for anyone in the forum: Who was the responsible of bringing Emilio to the Hoops? Which other players were options to fill Emilio's position back then?
I hope he stays with the club for at least 2 seasons more.

He's consistently been Celtic's best player this season. He's really solved a problem for Lenny. Cool and calm, gets the job done, constantly overlapping and giving us another option in attck. Also, I was surprised by his pace. He can definitely motor back into the line when he needs to.

    Sammy B? Is that you?

You just said something kind-of positive about the current Celtic team.

You been at the Guinness & blackcurrant? :56:

You'll have to search very hard to find a Celtic fan who doesn't like Emilio.

Here at Celtic, left-back has been our "problem position" for years. To suddenly have a player of real skill and composure playing there is quite a shock to us. :56:

Our main worry about him is that he's playing so well, some English club will try to poach him with a crazy offer...

Btw, tonight's match should be 13:45 Honduras time. :50:

    Today he was inconsistent,
though it's nothing to be worried about.

@Alvaro18 will you be attending the game against Ecuador in La Ceiba? Do you live over there?

I'll be efficient and post this here instead of starting a new thread.

I'm having a sneaky watch of our last 3 games v the scum and I'm noticing a Honduran trend in all our goals.

Out of our 6 goals in those matches 5 of them involved Emilio in what I would consider a crucial manner.

Goal 1, Commons: Emilio running at the Rangers defence hits a nice flick to Ledley, slightly fortunate deflection which allows Ledley to play ball across goal for Kris to slot away.

Goal 2, Brown: Emilio picks the ball up from a Sammy pass half way up the Rangers half at the side of the pitch, wins a yard of Naismith, delivers a cracking cross, ball lands at Wilson who makes a clumsy yet elegant turn for Brown to slot away.

Goal 3, Hooper: Clutching at straws a bit here but he plays a neat pass down the line from the half way line to Commons who passes it into Hooper, Hooper takes the beautiful touch and finishes.

Goal 4, Hooper: This is the goal that takes the biscuit. Wins the ball by tackling a Rangers player inside the Celtic half, passes to Sammy, runs the entire length of the pitch and provides an inch perfect cross, any closer to goal and the rapist would have got it, any further out and the defence would have, this for me is goal of the season so far.

Goal 6, Wilson: In a very similar manner to goal 2, Emilio has the fall on the flank, hits it round whoever that * wee right back was, another sensational cross and Wilson has his little shot party.

He had no input in Goal 5, but I'll tell you what Emilio, I'll let you off just this once.:86:

NOT FORGETTING his absolutely brilliant clearance of the line ont he 2nd January and ladies and gentlemen, I honestly think we have our best player at the club since the great Henrik Larsson.

Me encantas tú. ¡Queremos que te quedes en el Celtic!

I certainly won't begrudge him if he leaves in the summer but if the board accept anything less than £15 mill, I will be angry. Less than 10 I'll be seething.
