We already have a big guy back there, unfortunately like a lot of bigger guys he is slow getting off the mark.

We need a smaller more mobile CB to partner him. Another big slow guy would be a disaster.

Cant say I've seen him play but swapping Sammy for a defender who has 25 caps for Portugal, been in two World Cup squads, played for Benfica, Bordeaux, Valencia and Sporting and is still only 31 sounds like a perfect deal.

problem is he is a hot head and never takes on what managers tell him to do hence all the club movements and loan deals he has been on

he had a couple of seasons when he was a good player and then got to big for his boots, he has fell out with the sporting manager this season

sorry but unless you have seen him play and know who he is you can't really say it's the perfect deal fella

I said that I hadnt seen him play. But obviously he has to have some talent, Sammy is pish so why not take the risk?

I had to laugh at the article 'Ljungberg are marquee signing' lol, he's well past his best, technically he probably still decent enough but I dont think he has the pace to keep up, would have prefered to have jus given forrest a chance. Anyways back to the topic, i dont know alot about caneira but he must have been doin something right to play 25 times for portugal and the top clubs he's been at so I think it could be a good signing instead of samaras leaving for nothing at the end of the season

I don't know, I think Sammy would jump at the chance to sign for a big club like Sporting. Don't know anything about the defender we are looking at, but on paper, if the deal went ahead, it would seem to be good business.

So we are looking at a so called £1m player, - wasn't Murphy reported to be one of these when we bought him - who 32 year old next month. Since the beginning of the 2008/09 Season has played 28 times for Sporting Lisbon - 21 in 08/09 & 7 in 09/10. Brilliant !! (heavy dose of sarcasm).
Still, looking on the bright side, as he has played about the equivalent of 4/5ths of an SPL Season over the past 30 months, he should be well rested !! (another dose of heavy sarcasm).

I have a good friend that is a sporting fan.. He told me about this a couple days ago.. He asked me about samaras and watched the old firm game today as i told him sammy would be playing..

However i've never seen caneira playing myself but my mate said he is absolutely dreadfull and we should stay as far away from signing him as possible

Caneira is a magnificient center back, fast, with pace and stamina. Very good on high balls and posses an excellent technic. But probably has the worst agent in the world, that is famous for trying to screw Sporting and was able to create problems between Caneira and the Football department.
He is a good Player, capable of scoring gols, and a tremendous leader.
