Martin O'Neill is preparing a £1.5m bid to take defender Bobo Balde to Aston Villa from former club Celtic.

With the way Mick and Caldwell are playing he won't be getting into the team anyways for a while and 28k a week is a lot for someone who is basically just cover especially with JK on the way back..
Good player for us but not a WGS kind of defender take the money i reckon...

That should not be a bad deal. It's quite a lot of money and he earns a big salary every week. For that kind of money we can buy another good defender.

£1.5M and that amount of wages of the bill, that would be good.

We can get a more suitbale cover in January. I'm confident Strachan has a player on his shortlist that will be similar to McManus and Caldwell but miles cheaper than Balde. Can we throw in Thompson too?

Then we must invest the money (or a part of it) in a new player. If Balde leave, it's in January. Then we can buy a new one. WGS was busy with that Kadlec and i'm sure he will have more players in mind. Balde did a great job for us, but WGS don't believe in him, and if you can get 1,5 million for him and get rid of his wages we do a great job.

Is Kadlec still in the picture? I would let Bobo go. Mon would be doing us a favour.

I hope MON's funds are limited our we'll have * all of a team left. I know if it comes off with Balde it's a good deal for us, but the way MON is going about things leaves me with a bad feeling............who's next?

Strachan wont sell anyone he feels that he needs. We were going to get a good deal from Sunderland for Lennon, it got rejected straight away. Lennon is now having one of his best season's for Celtic. MON wont get any player off us that we dont want to sell. I've full faith in Strachan skills in the transfer market.

Hopefully Maloney's contract is sorted before January or then the trouble will start. He can talk to clubs without Celtic's permission then.

The way I see MON is doing us a favour. Anyone who doesn't want to be here should just go and at least let the club benefit. So long as we don't do them any favours there can only be one winner. Wee Sean is a definite no no.

That would be a good deal if it happens only because the big man is on high wages .

But to say yeah thats a good deal because we have JK coming back is not so good he only played 10-15 games and yes he was good he was not great i would rather see if we could improve the squad by getting someone who will challege GC and big Mick . :50:

Spot on mate, £1.5 mil for Bobo (much as i like him) is well acceptable, and i think we could get a better player on less wages.

Again you make a great point Dempsey, I suppose it's just me and the MON thing, I won't bore or upset anyone going on of what I think of him (Again) but the * inside me say's he won't take Thommo off us cause he knows we want rid of him.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan insists defender Bobo Balde remains firmly in
    his plans for the future.
Reports have claimed former Hoops boss Martin O'Neill is lining up a
#1.5million offer to take Balde to Aston Villa in the transfer window but
Strachan says he will not entertain any bids for the 31-year-old.
And the Celtic boss has revealed the Guinea defender has a chance of returning
for the Bank of Scotland Premier League clash against Motherwell tomorrow with
full-backs Lee Naylor and Paul Telfer facing late fitness tests on knocks.
The former Toulouse defender made his comeback from a stomach muscle injury in
the CIS Insurance Cup win over St Mirren on September 19 but he has yet to
feature in the SPL this season.
But Strachan is adamant he will not change his preferred 4-4-2 formation to
accommodate Balde in a back three for the Parkhead fixture.
Meanwhile, Strachan is eager his men take the threat of Motherwell seriously
after the high of their 3-0 Champions League triumph over Benfica at Celtic
    Park.
The European triumph followed a 4-1 win at Tannadice that helped the Bhoys
move five points clear of Hearts at the top of the table.
The former Manchester United star said they had a ``satisfaction'' after
turning over the Portuguese giants but warned his players: ``Pride comes before
    a fall.''
Well are unbeaten in four matches and moved off the foot of the SPL table with
successive victories over Kilmarnock and Dunfermline at Fir Park.
Strachan said: ``I saw their first win, the 5-0 game. They got a wee bit of
luck at the right time but they went on to play some good football.
``I watched a few of their earlier games and they didn't get much luck.
``So it is two sides that are winning games at the moment.''
Motherwell were thrashed 5-0 the last time they visited the east end of
Glasgow when now Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov scored a hat-trick a year
    ago.
The Celtic manager said: ``We had a world-class performance from Stiliyan last
time. So I have not got that but we are scoring goals from all corners of the
    pitch.
``Hopefully we will show Motherwell the same respect we showed Dundee United
    and Benfica.''
:shamrock: i hope we keep him...everyone on this board was sh!tting it at the start of the season as Balde was out and our defence didn't look to great...now we've had a bit of success everyone thinks we can do without him....he's been a good player for us and still has something to offer...remember that!

Caldwell is starting and playing well and yet he takes less than 1/5 of the wage that Balde is on (if news reports on wages are to be believed). Thats €40,000 LESS. We could get 2 more Caldwells and McManus's for that wage difference. Covered even if a plague hits.

I do agree that Balde cannot be sold unless a solid replacement is bought in, thats a no brainer cause Kennedy is still getting back into the swing of things

i loved martin o neil and still do but this whole thing about buyin celtic players is reallly startin to concern me and espeicelly the maloney situation. i cant help feelin angered, it may not look to serious yet but just wait untill the transfer window opens and MON has millions to spend. the board can be tempted and so can the players. call me paranoid but i dont want MON ruining what we have now!

I have a high regard for MoN as a manager/coach, however IF he signs Balde my opinion of MoNs astuteness in fitba will drop a bit, and if anybody is talking to MoN tell him I said that, he disny know me anyway! :86:
Now having said that, I hope to * he does sign him!
