Depending on which red top rag you read, Maloney wants 20k, 25k, 28k or 30k a week to sign.

The reaction of the chief exec to the question does not bode well.

I'm wondering what demands Maloney is making that the board wont agree to because we all know they and Strachan want to keep him.

He wants to stay at Celtic and we obviously want to keep him, of course he'll be haggling over money, who here can say that they dont want to make more money than they're already making.

everything has to be right .. this is the big one coming up for maloney.. in terms of contract and point in his career so of course it will take some time deliberating etc of .. 1 or 2 things these things dont get rushed overnight..and plenty other stuff to deal with at cp into the bargain atm... but im sure celtic will come to an amicable agreement with the wee man .. he wants to stay with us in the 1st place thats 99% good enough for me.

I don't know how you can justify such confidence that a deal will be done.
I know predictions can come come back to haunt you, but I'll make one now -

Maloney will sign a pre-contract agreement with a premiership team in January (maybe Spurs) before going on to win the league with Celtic in his last season at the club.

Please feel free to gloat if this turns out to be bullshit, coz I'll be reminding you if it comes true.

I think Celtic will come to an amicable agreement with Sean.

There was a game in the past year or so when Sean was outstanding and Dermot Desmond apparently said to Sean something like "Well done Wee Man, you have saved me a few million". So surely they will not blow it now and let him go.

i think you missed the headline here...

Chief executive Peter Lawwell insists Celtic
will do all they can to keep Shaun Maloney but warned that players cannot be retained "at any cost".

well thats only right.. stating celtic will do everything in thier power to keep maloney wich im sure they will .. maloney cant expect to be hoping for a gravesen or a hesselink wage not cos he doesnt deserve it.. these guys are seasoned pros who have played at the bigtime and cost a pretty penny to come in.

he will get a bumper offer to what hes on now that im sure of.. wether thats good enough in maloney or his agents eyes is another matter... anyway if he did go end of the day its his loss.

60k screaming fans every second week.
guaranteed champions top level football every season.
    best fans in the world.
maloney bieng a celtic fan also will know this.and how it means what he would be leaving.

to what ... say a spurs ? hes only 23 aswell already a major feature in a top european club.

to leave ? aye look where liam miller got him... sit on benches and no play... then get loaned then released ..go down to the div 1 england or wherever.. its not always rosy on the other side.

Nah i didn't miss that man i said that about 2 pages back in this thread my problem is not with Lawwell or even Shaun i have always said that once a player sees out his contract you can ask nothing more of him.My problem is this changing of agents that to me says he has been offered something by this guy that he was not being offered by Stein. who is to say what??That is what is troubling me with this deal

having said all that .when i think about it tho. maybe celtic will have to pay the lad what he wants in order to keep him. by what could pan out... be it 40k or 45k a week say gravesen is on.. maloney is a better player than gravesen.. theres no disputing that and at the young age of 23 aswell will be just as impossible to replace talking millions here...so theres no disputing hes worth the 40k a week or so ... wether he will get it or whatever figure is reasonable to him and "agent" the forthcoming weeks will only tell..i just hope both come to an agreement wenever it may be and its the correct outcome.

    Hail feckin Hail !!

We're getting a wee bit carried away here. Shaun is a good player, valuable member of the team and all that, BUT, we have only had one good season from him and remember MON would not give him a game. Yes he is worth a pay rise but 40 or 45 grand a week. I don't think so. Once he has achieved greatness then yes but until then 20 grand a week is ample for his talents. Remember the same thing being said about Liam Miller. Where is he now? Sub for Sunderland. If I was Peter Lawwell I would tell his agent if he could get 45 grand a week elsewhere then take it because he won't be getting it here. The club are now on a sound financial footing so why * it up for one player.

Agreed. The fact is that Tommy and Jan are proven CL and International players.Shaun is not at this moment on a par with them. And let's not forget this would not be the end of it other players and agents will be looking at this to see how it goes too and if they see we can be held to ransom ..................
