The Police can't turn a blind eye forever, it's unfortunate that's the way society is going, health and safety limiting everything. I agree people should have the right to stand at football games, but safe standing needs to be looked at first. My point is that it is not the board who are at fault, they are only following instructions from an ever obsessed with health & safety Police force and government.

safety message on standing at matches

    Newsroom Staff
IN recent weeks the club has been aware of a number of incidents of supporters standing throughout matches at Celtic Park.

This is a matter which rightly the club has taken very seriously, however, unfortunately this has continued at recent games.

In order to address this matter, the club are working with the Stadium Safety Team and Strathclyde Police and are insisting that all supporters sit down during matches.

Sitting at matches is a stadium regulation. Clearly, to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at Celtic Park, it is vitally important that the stadium regulations and safety instructions are adhered to.

The club, in partnership with the police, are treating this issue with the utmost seriousness and we ask all supporters attending Celtic Park to note this advice.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Clearly, the comfort and safety of spectators is our primary concern and it is essential that the issue of standing is addressed

“Celtic Park is designed specifically as an all-seater stadium and the Safety Certificate for operating has been approved and issued on this basis.

“Persistent standing is a real safety risk and could ultimately result in the Safety Certificate, which is required to open the stadium, being revoked.

“It is vital that this matter is taken very seriously and that supporters, for their own safety and the safety of others, sit down during matches."

A spokesperson for Strathclyde Police said: "The issue of standing during matches is one which must be taken very seriously.

“There have been a number of examples of this in recent weeks at Celtic Park and this cannot be allowed to continue.

“For their own safety and the safety of others, all supporters should sit down during matches.

“The Stadium Safety Team are rightly taking a very close interest in this matter. Celtic FC, Strathclyde Police and the Safety Team do not wish in any way to prevent supporters from enjoying football matches, however, the safety of those attending must be paramount at all times."

In addition, to ensure that particular stadium areas do not become overcrowded and congested it is essential that all supporters sit only in the seat for which their season ticket or match ticket is intended.

This will give all supporters the opportunity to enjoy the match in a safe and comfortable environment, something we all want.

Both the club and Strathclyde Police sincerely appreciate the co-operation of all supporters

So if the Police take drastic action and revoke the Safety Certificate, the stadium can't be opened right?

I just don't understand why standing is considered a safety issue. Alright, standing all in a group with no regard to seats/seating assignments could cause a crush but that's more down to ticket enforcement than standing. The way it's going there'll be more atmosphere at * Major League Baseball games.

Convert the latter part into a chant for the next game, yes its away but it's on the telly so some exposure and then repeat the chant at every home game it takes.
This is now Strathclyde Police taking the place of the SFA to jump on the anti-Celtic bandwagon. It's as if we are the only fans in the country who stand. * off.

"Hoist me in on a sky-hook in a seated position and I shall not move for the duration of the game"

What about the 5000 who leave early all at the same time?
Make THEM sit to the end! lol

It was a reaction to the stadium disasters but now it's outdated and not needed, however it is still the law of the entire country and not just Celtic ''being *'' as some have put it.

Does this mean that when we all stand up to sing 'walk on' that the stadiums going to be shut down. Or will it mean if certain groups of fans stand up to sing songs they will be kicked out? What if i stand up at half time to eat my pie and bovril will i be kicked out or will they close the stadium down what if i stand up to see the game because of an obstructed view (people walking out or into the game.. oh they are standing to) Get real we should know what this is about. All seated stadium doesnt mean you cant stand because you have got to stand at times, like all legislation it depends on how and who is interpreting it. Looking forward to the all seated 'walk on' and the fans using their * cheeks to get to the loos.
The board and or the police are having a go at the GB get it!Nothing at all to do with Health and Safety.

I for one is well fed up with hearing thet GREAT MERIT for standing up !

I have been in senarios, when the GB and away fans have done " stand up" unfortunatly they cant stand up properly as 1/2 are wasted and fall like dominos on top of unfortuntate bystanders hence the law that was created! - Its a dangerous senario and can testify by the way I saw fellow tic fans "hurt" by drunk "stander's falling.

Its the law ffs , why is that not acceptable !
