It might be a "coincidence," but it's not something that seems at all impossible. More like it just happened to be this planet. In all the the massive amount of time that the universe has existed and in all the endless places there are in the universe, this planet turned out to be life supporting and spawned organisms.

Not to insult the incredible logic of a pope:87:, but this is ridiculous. There is a difference between a parent doing what is necessary for their child to live, and influencing all their child's thoughts and beliefs (and subsequently how they will interact with others).

This is not a debate about religion, simply a question on what faiths our members are. Open a new thread if you want to debate religion.

Catholic, which obviously means I go to church every week. I cant understand some people who say are catholics but then they follow it with a "but I dont go to church", its not really coherent.

Id say right now its the least fashionable that has ever been to admit you're a catholic so I say it all the time, just to annoy religious intolerants. By the same token I dont have any problem or would never confront an atheist just because doesnt share the same faith than I do but I just think its very in vogue right now in britain particularly to be an atheist, or even better an anti-catholic, without really any kind of profoud self examination of your faith. Regardless of the human element theres a set of beliefs that deserve a bit of examination, if after reading and pondering you arrive to the conclusion that you dont believe then fair enough, but what irks me is people who make their mind based on superficial reasons, and that goes too for catholics who never question their faith.

Theres also a strange equation lately in the media for which atheists are modern, free thinking people, while religious people live in the dark ages. To simplify it because Ive actually read it put that way, a smart person has to be atheist while a simpleton has to be religious. Ive even seen how most anticatholics, richard dawkins type, treat us with a condescending attitude like we're absolute and illiterate morons who should be enlighten. They miss the obvious fact that some of the most intelligent people through history and even in the XXI century are in fact religious. You'd struggle mightily to find more educated people than the jesuits, in both arts and sciences, very sophisticated thinkers as well, and even anticatholics who have been to their schools respect them as a great educational institution.

Bit fo a rant there, sorry

same here. brought up Catholic being from Ireland, my dad and mam are very religious when it comes to their faith but it has been lost on me and my sisters. Couldnt tell ya the last time i went to mass apart from a wedding or funeral. Personally i think the whole lot is a load of made up bull so certain people can have power over the masses but I would never put anyone down or mock peoplkes beliefs. for example my best mate is Catholic and a big believer that he will meet his mother who passed away when he was a kid again in heaven, now who im I to argue against that, everyone to their own.

to me somebody can be a good catholic without going to church every week. I hardly ever go to church.

I pray every day wherever I am, I talk to * and my beloved ones, who are up there in heaven and watching me.

Being a catholic means to me being nice to everybody else. have respect and dignity for everybody. don't take anybody or anything for granted and help where I can. Treat others as you want to be treated.
