Think Maxwell is a good player. He isn't up there with the best in the world but definately he is a good left back.

Useful player to have, probably the reason he has played for two of the best teams in the world.

3 of the biggest if you count Ajax back when they were a decent team.

Well he's average in comparison to the best in the world. Which is the thread topic. Not saying he's bad or anything, just nothing spectacular. He doesn't feature for Barca enough as well. To actually make a judgement on him, he has to at least be playign regularly. Otherwise you're talking about form years ago.

Played the majority of last season due to injury to Abidal.

What's everyone's opinion on Abidal by the way? I think he is up there with the best but not good enough to be considered as the best if you know what I mean.

Was half a season though. I still don't think he's anything spectacular. Abidal though, is a complete player. He doesn't excel at something in particular but he is solid as you like at everything. Could improve going forward but seems a dependable player

    Carlos Salcido :p
    haha

IDK if it's the best of the world, but in the WC there's was a guy that was a beast in the left back, but I don't remember if was from Portugal or Brazil. xP

Gareth Bale if we are going to consider him a LB, Abidal should also get a mention

More of a left winger. Left back certainly isn't his favoured position.

    Bit like Bale really.

Average in terms of people saying he's the best in the world. I haven't said he's a bad player, just that he's nowt special and probably shouldn't be considered one of the best in the world. There are plenty 'good' players about and he could well be one of them but to be classed as one of the best, I don't think so.

Don't think as many teams would have him as you think. Defo not Man u, Spurs, Arsenal as well as Chelsea. He wouldn't get in their 11 at the moment and some other teams may not even want him at all.

I really don't think so mate. Assou-Ekkoto, whether he is fantastic or not has made that position his own and has played in it for a couple of years now. I think he's part of their team. I don't think they would ditch him for Maxwell.

I disagree on the other two as well as I think both Clichy and Evra are better. I'm not a Clichy fan either though to be honest- too tricky and messes about on the ball sometimes!

Agree with Nick - Maxwell is just above average. Dependable, that's about it. I think Assou-Ekkoto is as good as him and I don't even rate him highly. No chance he'd get in front of Evra or Clichy (who hasn't improved as much as his early promise suggested he would).

Spurs would have him there in a second as well as Arsenal with the way Clichy is playing. Man Utd yes because of Evra; bet they wouldn't say no to have him in the sqaud though.
