i remember a scene in sparticus when all stood and proclaimed to be he, maybe all players should take a stand and bless themselves coming on to the pitch to show its no big deal for all teams ,and that the small minded brigade cant go running to the police whenthe offence is from them.

    Rdv2006,

I honestly don’t think that he was trying to incite anybody back in Feb.. He was going through his normal ritual, which I guess most of you are used to seeing. For those who aren’t there is a clip on youtube from a poster called broxbhoy, it is from the friendly against Chelsea. In it he applauds the fans (Celtic); if you substitute this for a “come on” gesture I think you have what he did that day.

I think the “come on/bring it on” gesture was mistaken for the “two fingered gesture/V sign” gers fans described. As he is Polish he would favour the Continental one fingered birdie, v sign is from England and only used on these Isles.

After a couple of seconds he then walks forward and seems to be praying. During this time he rubs his hands together at about waist level. I think this was mistaken for the “coffee shaker/w*nker” gesture by gers. But as he was praying, this would have been absent minded (as people do while talking on the phone, etc.). And only looks like the gesture described if you’re myopic.

He then blesses himself; I think this was mistaken for..........!!!!

He was also criticized for doing it blatantly in front of the gers but apparently his ritual dates back to when he was a kid. At kids’ matches there are no fans behind the goals, just some parents on the side lines. I think he might have turned away from the pitch and other people to have a private moment. Fast forward 15 years, he’s a professional footballer and there are hundreds of people behind his goal, but by this time it has become a habit and a ritual as well as religious observance (religion is all about ritual anyway!) and it was never a problem before.

IMHO the only thing he shouldn’t have done (if indeed he did) was the “come on gesture” but loads of footballers do this without sanction, so his hardly worth a police investigation (nor could it be described as a combination of gestures).

    Szuwar,

    That was my point.:50:

Before he blesses himself he looks like he is praying, as he rubs his palms together. I think this is the w*anker gesture the gers complained about. However, it is a completely innocent gesture while is mind is occupied.
