I seen a guy wearing a poppy near me, he got huge amounts of abuse, disgraceful. Imo its down to personal choice and to attack or abuse a fellow fan is a disgrace.

    Absolutely shocking mate:38:

Personally i dont wear poppies or agree with them, but it's a persons choice whether they wish to wear them.....but to attack someone(especially a fellow Celtic supportee) is disgraceful.

And to take the abuse tht your Gf, friend and yourself was absolutely uncalled for!

Those are the kind of wee * who should be banned!

to those saying "these are the neds that need to be banned" these are most likely some of the same people who post on this forum in support of the protest, or were actively part of the protest

theres no denying this, im not saying every person who did/does protest the poppy is a ned, but i highly doubt a ned would understand why the green brigade unfurled that banner, instead just following the IRA chants to that section to see something they suddenly beleive in

so much so that they are willing to fight their own fans over it who have been wearing poppies for as long as they can remember

the irony behind the protest of the poppy is it acknowledges the politicization of the poppy and really just turns it from being a symbol for those who died into splitting the people, ala the "support our troops" ribbon that so many people here in NA have as a bumper sticker:)87:), into the pro-war and anti-war groups, instead of doing anything to stop the politicization of it

Not suprised reading that guy was attacked for wearing a poppy, just shows the level of thug going to the games these days. Had hoped to bring my son to his first Celtic game this year but I wouldnt even go myself im that disgusted over this.

200,000 Troops from Ireland fought in the Great War, with another estimated 300,000 troops of Irish descendency in American or Canadian uniforms. I suggest these Green Brigade twits go to a graveyard in the Somme and see all the graves marked 'Unknown Irish Soldier' row after row of them its one of the most moving sights you will ever see. That banner is by far the most disgraceful thing ive seen yet at CP. Disrespectful and disgusting behaviour by uneducated yobs.

Why can some people not get it into their heads, the Poppy is not just about the World Wars anymore.

It should never be on the Celtic Jersey ever again.

Do you think the Poppy only represents those who died in the World Wars ?

I don't think it is, children see and hear everything and I certainly wouldn't be taking my son if he was old enough to go right now because he'd be questioning everything & I think its important to protect a childs innoence so they don't become caught up in mindless bigotory when they get older.

Double standards?? Is lawwell running about with those embarrassing banners?,,,,no! Does a poppy have a place on a poppy shirt, no is the short answer for that.

Theres a massive difference between choosing not to put a poppy on a football top (which other teams choose to do) and advertising *, embarrassing banners.
