Just read through a fair bit of this and it genuinely saddens me. I know im gonna be slated for this, but here goes.

Saturdays banner was a disgrace. How dare the green brigade speak for the entire support. They do a great job bringing atmosphere to the stadium, but they represent only a minority of the support. There is a lot more to this famous club than one corner of fans.

They are entitled to their opinion, but it should not be aired in such a way. Without doubt, they brought shame on the club.

Im really sorry to see our support at loggerheads. I was brought up a Celtic fan, without political or religious connotations. I have always loved this great club and get to see them whenever possible. Why cant it just be about football? I hate to say this, but this whole argument is an embarrassment.

Well done to Celtic for swiftly distancing themselves from the protest. Lets get back to supporting our team and hopefully cheering them on to a successful league campaign. This poppy thing is so insignificant. It will all be over soon and where will we be? Will we still be divided over a difference of opinion?]

Some of the comments on here are so close minded its unreal. Everyone needs to get a grip.

As i say i have no doubt i will get abuse for this, but i feel so strongly about watching our fanbase implode that i had to air my opinion.

The poppy represents ww1 (to commemorate the fallen during the battle of Flanders) but is now being hijacked by all and sundry and used for commercial gain. Shameful

Well for starters I wouldn't like to think we were "open" to murderers, rapists, child abusers, paedophiles, anti-Catholic/Irish bigots etc.

Any and every religion is welcome.

if the green brigade go there will be absolutely no atmosphere in celtic park whatsoever. by banning whoever held the banner i would not be suprised if they all left in protest and celtic park would be a library. and thats coming from someone not in the GB. atleast they make an effort to sing and create a noise which celtic is famous for. where would any noise come from apart from a goal if they left? the banner may have been a bit OTT but it was no meant to offend anybody in WW1 WW2 how no1 can see that is beyond me.

some people are for poppies fine. but clearly others will find them offensive

Stan Collymore is a wife-beating *, I have no interest in anything he wishes to spout off about.

Aye, that is the real shameful thing.

The ban from Celtic Park is a bit harsh IMO.

I am not going to go into much detail but I have seen FIRST HAND the devastating effects that the war in Afghanistan in particular has had and I don't really like Celtic associated with it at all.

Now you're just talking about free will. Thinking no murderer has ever supported Celtic is just stupid.

It was always going to offend those affected by the world wars.

It was plain ignorant and massively disrespectful.

Obviously rapists and the likes support Celtic, they will never ever be welcome though.

Put it this way, if you hate the Irish, or you hate Catholics then you wouldn't be welcome at Celtic and you should be told to * off to Govan. Not aimed at you btw :50:

    good post..
It's a tough subject , partly because as this thread proves , many fans on here (and in the wider support) are behind the sentiments on the banner , and because of that I don't want to go down the road of saying things like there's a feeling of "guilt by association" or "all of us are being tarred with the same brush " just because one small group has chosen to publicly make a statement (that comes across as though it's on every Celtic fans behalf)..
But as a football fan when the club is being attacked we all feel it and get defensive , and when it's our own doing it's the equivalent of kicking yourself in the sack..

It's good the press have kept reports as being the opinion of the green brigade solely , which hopefully gets a message across that it's not a universally held view in the support , and further emphasised in the clubs apology , but the one thing that really does * me off is the fans who are happy to make these protests , and sing during a minutes silence total disregard for fellow Celtic supporters who will sit in silence , and the lack of acknowledgement that accountability for their actions is shared amongst the fans that actually have done nothing wrong.. :38:

I can see both sides but others were offended their team was being made remember an army that invaded ireland(homes of many fans or homes of fans family) and raped and murdered the country for 800 years.

obviously if you have family in the army it will be offensive i just think there are 2 sides to it.

Not once have I ever said that, simply untrue.
