On the subject of statues....i have to say imo,only McNeil should have one.T Burns was a Celt to the core...but he was only a good player,and a decent manager.Yes he was a passionate Celt,but his tragically young death should not be a reason in itself for any statue...and i am sure TB would agree if he was here today......because if Tommy Burns is to be remembered at all,then surely it is as a man that not only had Celtic in his heart,(but who here doesn't)but had integrity and honesty to spare,and he would have been first to say that his achievements did not merit a statue.He would have been honoured to have been so well thought of,but embarrassed to get a statue before such deserving others.

We have a brilliant youth system and training complex in place now.

That to me is Tommy Burns legacy.

Im sorry,but Tommy Burns was not "only a good player,and a decent manager"

He done a lot more for Celtic than just play and manage.

But i do agree he would probably be embarassed of talk of a statue for him.

Although I worship the ground he walks on I think thats a bit much. He is living ledgend but he didnt play with us that long. A plaque would be more classy inmo

 McNeil has been a great servant of that there is no doubt. But his Celtic status is nothing more than iconic because he was the leader of the Lions and the one who lifted the European Cup.

It would be like saying Jackie Mac was the most revered player of the Seville team.

Go and ask any of the surviving Lisbon Lions how good big Cesar was and see what answer you get.

You're also completely overlooking Billy McNeill's achievements as manager of the club which would have to be taken into consideration when deciding who is most deserving of a statue.

Again, as I’ve stated. McNeill has been a great servant to CFC.

But his managerial stats, whilst respectable, are overshadowed by many others in the clubs history.

Billy McNeill is the greatest living Celt, there is absolutely no doubt about that in my mind.

 It already is a sham that Tommy Burns has not had a statue in his honour.

No doubt you’ll ridicule that suggestion as well because Tommy didn’t play with the Lions or have as many appearances as McNeill.

The two greatest players in our history are Jinky and Henrik.

The two greatest Celts in our history IMO are Jock Stein and Tommy Burns.

That's a silly comparison. Jackie Mac was a squad player in that team, Billy McNeill was the long established leader of the Lions and the greatest captain this club has ever had.

You're evading the point because you know the Lions would, to a man, say that Billy McNeill was a towering figure and a * fine centre-half. I'm not disputing Henrik's greatness, I am simply stating that Billy McNeill is a bigger figure in the history of Celtic Football Club than Henrik is.

MANY others? I don't think so. Billy McNeill delivered us trophies and titles in an era when it was harder to win the League than it was when Martin O'Neill and Gordon Strachan were the manager. The job Billy McNeill did for us in the centenary year was tremendous.

Flimsy defence? The numbers speak for themselves and I doubt you would find many Celtic fans over the age of 25 who wouldn't put Billy McNeill in a Greatest ever Celtic team or regard him as one of the most well known figures in the history of the club.

I would not ridicule the idea of Tommy Burns being given a statue but he does not deserve one ahead of Billy McNeill. While Tommy was a great, great man and bled green & white his achievements as a player and a manager do not even compare with Billy McNeill's. Tommy himself would probably have told you as much.

Good player though he was there were many equal and better strikers in our history who played at a time when the league was far harder to win and the standard of opposition far higher. As others have posted, guys like Jinky, Mcgrory, McNeill are on a completely different level than Henke. All Henke was was an excellent player and model pro but I dont think he symbolised the club in the way that the others have. Henke is on a similar level to Lambo IMO-quality players who gave 5 or 6 good years and were well paid for it.
