    Yep I totally agree. :50:

Tevez is real team player on the field and has plenty of skill and goalscoring potential to boot.

puyols kind of overated imo, dont get me wrong hes a great defender and he'll go to war if he has to but anytime i see a team put barca under pressure puyol and pique sometimes look out of sorts, and because barca defend trying to use the offside system they get caught quite often on the break and puyols lack of pace doesnt help, CL final for eg.
And you can talk about other defenders not doing it in big games (but the ones you mentioned usually do imo ) but most of the games barca play they usually dominate big or small and arent tested defensively as much as other defenders are,if you throw puyol into anyother teams defence his weaknesses will show more often.

There needs to be clarification over inconsistent and overrated.

Gerrard, Robinho, Ibra are capable of absolute brilliance. Probs why they retain their place in the team when they have poor spells.

Really, there must be folk on here who never saw Buffon from 1999-2006. The fact every supporter in Italy nicknames him "Superman" speaks for itself (and they should know best). Outstanding as Parma won the UEFA Cup in 1999, outstanding for Juventus from joining until around 2008/2009 when injuries really started to take their toll. There hasn't been much Italian football on TV over the last few years and Juve were demoted from Serie A and therefore not in any European competition for a couple of years thanks to calciopoli , so it's easy for people to watch the likes of Cech, Casillas on Sky every week and say they've been the best. It's all about opinions, but anyone who has regularly watched the guy knows what I'm talking about. He'll be seen as the greatest of all-time. Opta facto mundo.

Buffon or Schmiechal are the best keepers I've seen. Can't seperate who is better.

I think Buffon's done it for a longer period though.

Absolutely LOVED Schmeichel. Incredible presence in the box, amazing shot-stopper and he pretty much pioneered the goalkeeping counter-attack with those throws that were like punts! I just think that Buffon has more natural ability, more than any 'keeper I've seen in my life-time. Guy's a phenomenon.

Think I agree with that mate. Buffon's positioning in goal is incredible a lot of the time he doesn't even need to move to pull of saves a lot of goalkeepers would need to scramble too.

He doesn't need to be an incredible shotstopper with positioning like that, it's hardly fair that he is that as well.

Aye, totally man. That's one of the things that makes him stand-out: it's as if he has a sixth sense about where he needs to be and where the ball's going to go. It's became quite apparent to me that you can't teach that. Shot-stopping wise, I'd say he's just behind Casillas now, but when he was younger...ooft. David De Gea will be the next big thing, I'm sure. Seems that Spain, and not Italy, are producing all the top young goalkeepers these days. Upsetting.

De Gea looks a class act. Always had a soft spot for Italian keepers since the likes of Peruzzi, Pagliuca and Toldo.

Buffon's blew them all out the water though.

I have to confess to being completely bemused as to how anybody could say Steven Gerrard is over-rated. :43: The guy is a tremendous player and always has been.

I don't think Gerrard is tremendously tactically astute which won't help him later in his career once his legs go. He's definitely top 3 box-to-box midfielders in the world though, probably the best. Can see him doing a Scholes later in his career, sitting deep, but pinging amazing passes all over the place. Don't think he's as clever a player as Scholes, mind.

Have to disagree with the ones in bold. Gerrard is a phenomenal player , he is a complete midfielder and a born leader , he can score a goal from out of nowhere and im my opinion the best English player in the national team. The past 2 seasons he has struggled with the team around him. That being said I must admit I don't like him for some of the things he has done e.g elbowing players and pushing that young fan (hull fan I think , can't remember).

I am starting to like Nani to be honest, I think when he first joined their was alot expected of him and Anderson and they failed to deliver, Nani often tried to much in matches and was fairly greedy but last season he played brilliantly , scoring great goals and getting great crosses into the box for Rooney and Berbatov , he is turning more into a team player which has made him a better player.

Vidic is a quality centre-half in my opinion. He is an absoloute rock and wins almost everything in the air , granted he is slow he still does not let many strikers by him

I can't quite believe how anyone could say Torres is overrated , he is the best finisher in the world but he has struggled with injuries really badly in the past two years , he had a bad world cup but he was not 100% fit at it , his goal record for Liverpool is amazing... 57goals in 86 appearances!

Well due to the other thread, I think its safe to say a lot of people in this forum are grossly overrating Mark Wilson!

Nah I think he will never want to the sitting player. He will want to bomb-on forward. I think his game is about heart and energy and I reckon thats why he's one of the best. If he can pass, win the ball and score goals, surely that in itself is being tactically aware.
