Fergus McCann is a peculiar case. On one side there was sanctioning £5million to save the club without actually having any control over the club, on the other side is a man who treated some good Celtic men badly (Tommy Burns, Dempsey etc), as well as refusing to sanction an extra £300,000 to get the players the manager wanted a few months before the end of the 9IAR season. It doesn't make you a bad fan to level some criticism at Fergus McCann but no one can claim that he conned them - he always went public with his intentions, particularly with his 5 year plan. The fans also deserve tremendous credit, from the 'Celts for Change' campaign right through to the oversubscribed share issue. A lot of fans seem to think that, as an owner, McCann was immune to criticism due to his saving of the club but, like the current board and any other board/owner of football teams, there will always be mistakes made. You have to admire the way McCann targeted the SFA and sought to get more equality for Celtic, particularly in the Jim Farry case, the most blatant form of cheating ever, ultimately conspiring to help Rangers win the title that season. The attempts to move away from the clubs roots wasn't the brightest move and, as stated by Tommy Burns, there was no need for the Bhoys against Bigotry campaign.

fergus as has been said came with a plan and followed it and was entitled to leave with his wedge as he was the one who came in with the cash like david murray did at rangers and the position we are in today was down to fergus setting us on the right road so he deserves his place in the history of our club and we were doing the dirty on celtic legends before he arrived so theres no come back on that point

hero without a doubt; and he always said he'd leave after so many years with a healthy profit so the guy did everything he said he would, build a stadium, improve the team and leave with a profit on his investment; it was the scottish media that seemed to despise him, probably because he saved us in the first place!

just ask yourself this, where would we be if he hadnt come in? would we still be here at all!?
