With Gravesen there there wouldn't be as much pressure on the CBs and bobo coming back adds strength and cl experiance. So i'd go with gravesen.

.......or we could just buy both! lol

I'd go for Graveson. Think if we got him signed then I'd be happy. A defensive midfielder a left back and a striker we're what we wanted and then we'd have them. I'd be * extatic if we signed Tommy and I'd be fairly happy going into the CL.

Gravesen would be a superb up here. Just what we need. A centre back would be nice but Gravesen is top quality IMO.

i would prefer a centre-back but if grav chooses to join us tht jus might be the difference from finishing 3rd in the group stage or finishing 2nd

Would love both in an ideal world, but if it's only one then I'd go for a quality CB. With Stan staying, I think we have more than enough in midfield, although Tommy G would be the missing piece of the jigsaw, especially if Lennon is being gradually faded out.
We need a calm head at the back, something we're badly missing at the moment, remember how good Bobo was with Mjalby next to him?
Apart from Wilson who shows signs of potential, too early to judge Naylor, we don't have any real quality at the back, Bobo and McManus are too prone to fits of madness, Caldwell doesn't look solid, Varga's past it, Telfer's a squad player/stop gap at best and we don't know how Kennedy will come back. Need a cool, calm leader at the back.

I would love Melberg + Gravesen, it's possible if Stan goes to Villa in a player + cash deal ( 5mill + Melberg). Now that i would would settle for if we had to loose Stan!:50:

Would we need to sell Petrov to fund TG's wages?

I dont think we need to. They dont want to sell Petrov and they want to get Gravesen. They have made no indication that they will sell Petrov to get Gravesen and its not like they didnt have chances

    MILK WAS A BAD CHOICE..
Yeah, think about it, £4m for both JVOH and Naylor, we should have more than enough dough for Gravesen and A.N Other! The fact Hearts got put out of the CL alone would cover Gravesens transfer and almost a seasons wages! If we have to lose Petrov (which we may not) we should go flat to the mat for Antonaliy Timoschuk of Shakhtar Donetsk..

I'm thinking about the defence: Wilson, I really like him at right back so I think we've got that sussed (till he gets injured and Paul Telegram pass comes back); Balde, monster; Naylor, really think this could be a shrewd bit of business (plus we may still get Kadlec in January); plus we have McManus, Caldwell, Kennedy, even Varga and, my great hope, Scott Cuthbert. Surely, by law of averages alone(!) one of them's bound to develop into world class material...

Maybe for another thread, but would anyone else like to offer thier opinions on Cuthbert and/or the potential of our other homegrown defenders? I aint seen too much of him, mainly underage Scotland teams and v little in the Hoops..

    hail, hail :celt_2:

yet again I will say this

Go to winkpedia and look for midfield(football)

That will tell you what makes a good midfielder and lennon has none of it pearson is to attacking same with petrov we need a good midield(center)

What makes a good midfield is to have attacking midfielders and defensive midfielders in a formation

we practically have no defensive midfielders exept from sno

a defensive midfielders duties is to break up attacks so the defence can handel it what i have seen is the players running straight down the middle then the defenders push them back a bit the other team passes it back (this is when a dm should break it up aswell) and bang it's in the goals

Thomas gravesten is the player for the job

also we need a new backup keeper

a quality center back would do nearly nothing better to our team at all

Never though about it from this angle before and i must say i think you have a very good point here.
I voted for a defender but every time ive seen grav play ive been in awe of his presence on the pitch. So i go for grav now
