What defender strachan needs to buy to fill up our great team?

I think after Naylor and VOH signing, GS needs to fill up the squad buying a defender...but who?

what if petrov leaves .?.... centre half maybe also ... these are positions that could need adressing come injury/ circumstances change etc ....

what we could do with but wont get all im sure ....but wud be delighted 1 maybe 2 would beef us up a bit come CL ...

a backup goalie - ? the serb
another midfielder ? Gravesen (in Talks with agent).. alt. Hartley.
another defender. ? Gallas. or Kovac ive herd mentioned ? =).
even another striker - ? the other serb luboja ( Still supposed to be in talks with agent even after VOH signing)

i think thats pretty clear... room for improvement/strenghtening as with every team.

We need an experienced man at the back to stop the others from making mistakes. Someone with experience of European and international football.

Unfortunately, as others have pointed out, these guys don't come cheap. I reckon the best bet would be someone on a loan (Huth maybe) or else a short term signing like Ehiogu from Middlesbrough.

Ideal player would have been Sol Campbell

 

tell MON we'll reduce Stan's asking price to £6m if he throws in Mellberg

Kovac would be good, Mellberg...

 

I think with the excellent signing of VOH and if Naylor proves to be as effective at LB as Wilson then our two big needs are a top class CB and a top class defensive CM. Gravesen would obviously be perfect for the later role.

Real quality centre backs arent available on the cheap this window, Webster would have been a good buy for £500,000 but I was shot down when I mentioned it before.

 

I think Kuffour can be a great defender for us, he has international experience and Roma's coach doesn't want him...so I think he can be good...

 

How old is Kuffour now? I havent seen him play for club since Bayern Munich.

 

There is a rumour of Olegeur coming from Barca for a year!! Now that would be good.

Finally, we mentioned last week about the Bhoys being in discussion with one of Europe’s biggest clubs about a loan deal. Our Los Ramblas mole informs us that we are in discussions with Barcelona about a one year loan deal for Catalan defender Oleguer or to give him his full title Oleguer Presas Renom.

Oleguer is an excellent defender whose preference is centre back but he is also extremely dependable at right back. The arrival of Thuram and Zambrotta has pushed ‘Olly’ further down the pecking order and he has been made available to us for the season. Olly is a local lad who is not overly keen on leaving even short-term but discussions have been going well and it’s hoped a deal can be struck ahead of the deadline. Interesting fact regarding Olly is he very keen on his politics and to use a football analogy would be regarded as a left winger. Should fit in well with our support then!

We've also been advised that Mark Van Bommel is available. Nothing will happen ahead of this transfer deadline but there is a real possibility he will be in hoops come January.

come on dempsey ,webster ,second only to pressley ,i'd rather play mo camara at central defence. would ye no be happier to get gravesen, if he would come ,to sit in front of the defence we've got and bolster the midfield,that might free up attack mnded md's to get forward mre
