I'd say this could be one reason why.

They're currently the best team in Mexico. Their best players are midfielder Daniel Luduena(Argentina) and striker Christian Benitez(Ecuador).

Was Benitez the guy that played for Birmingham last year?

i really hope this doesn't turn into another nakamura scenario where we say well he's good let's just go out and start buying asian players because they're all good like this. we need to focus on the juarez type player. the player that is a holding midfielder for them has way more technique than scottish players in an attacking role and they're not afraid to kick people which is what you need in the SPL. the average mexican player wouldn't last in scotland. just the honest truth

Cracking player, just not suited for England imo

Santos is a real good team. They play a very attractive style and have a few players with European potential

They are no Pumas tho :52:

I think you might be underestimating the average mexican players
Not every mexican player is a Juarez but they are not complete * either

Juarez was probably one of the least technical players in the Mexican league and in Scotland he's one of the better

I don't claim to be an expert of Scottish football but from the SPL games I have seen i don't think the Mexican league is by any stretch an inferior competition

Probably could make the argument that it's a stronger competition

As far the Santos deal it could be all a PR deal

I'll try to find more info on it

    ....

    Found this from Efrain's twitter

    rough translation

" greetings to my friends Irarragorri and club santos laguna who are in glasgow closing a important partnership with celtic"

that's exactly my point. that's who we should be targeting. the tougher mexican players who aren't the most technical in mexico but aren't afraid to kick the * out of people. juarez plays in the hole or at RB for mexico and yet when he plays for celtic, he's one of the creative players. i see a lot of mexican football here in the states and some of the * that's allowed by the referees in the SPL would never be tolerated in FMF. The Mexican players in general are far better technically but they'd never last in Scotland because they'd never be fit. the abuse they'd take would be unlike what they're used to. Totally different type of football comparing the two. That's why I hope we're selective about who we target. A Juarez type player is perfectly suited to Scotland. Let's focus on that and not go after players who may not advance their abilities here

Of course a team has to look for a player that fits a specific role.
It would be incredibly stupid to start signing mexican players for the sole reason of selling more shirts.

As far as players not being able to adapt because the "abuse" they will see is so much greater than anything they have faced ever before.. total pish

    Football is Football

Mexican teams do extremely well in south american competitions with teams from nations that traditionally have physical leagues.

Only one Mexican player has played in Scotland and it seems like he's doing well. Why dismiss a whole league because "they'd never fit"

I think mexican players would fit in scottland, easily.

There are two different football brands, but mexican clubs have played in all competitions, libertadores, sudamericana cup, club world cup and always fare quiet well.

Juarez is definitely lacking in technicality to be honest.. but his hustle makes up for it. And mexican players hit A LOT (look at the foul stats for the world cup), the fact that the refs dont tolerated as much in the FMF is another thing.

    Repost from Mexican football thread:

BTW Santos have a catholic church in their stadium complex so I can say they're the only one Mexican club that's "openly religious(?)"
