Calling it a "famine" makes my blood boil. It was starvation.
    Simple facts.

It was of course genocide, have a look at how we were depicted in English newspaper cartoons at the time. They drew us as monkeys. They stole our land, forced our emigration, and were responsible for one of the biggest injustices in modern history.

But out of that we ended up in places all over the world. Helped to build those countries and were subjected to terrible racism most notably in America and Scotland.

We have left our mark on the world and are now thought of with great affection. Paddys day has become a worldwide celebration of our history, culture, and identity. It is perhaps the greatest Famine memorial of the lot. We have heavily integrated into many countries as the large Irish diaspora can testify.

Another less well known result of the Irish Holocaust is that we changed the English working class forever particularly in the north of England. The amount of people proud of their Irish decent around the world has shown our dignity as a people.

Its nothing to with religion. Thats the excuse for the loylists. The troubles is all about the english coming over to ireland and have been there for over 800 year. They made a 'Protestant' state ( which is a sectarian state ). The media make out to be a religion war. ITS NOT! its the english to get out of Ireland simple.

What do you think without any force will make the english leave north ireland? I think the only method would be irish people from republic to move in great numbers to northern ireland or buy as many houses as they can there.
The only thing without violence would be getting the majority of the vote and selecting a pro republic government.
It will be the IMHA , the irish move house army :86:

Voting wont do nothing because the so called 'Republicans' have been bought out so that Ireland cant have a united Ireland. The only way as quoted by traiter Mark Mcguinness said "the only way for a United Ireland is the IRA's force" which right now is happning and the war will never end until the english go. If they dont leave its until the end of humanity.

There is no treaty in human history that cannot be undone. So if it's a treaty blocking an unification it can be renounced. Selecting the right people in the government and you can make sure that they do. I just think that the violence won't get them out. You need a majority vote in North Ireland. As long as it stays violent they can use excuses like "we need to protect the people in N-I from the violence". Their army is no match for a guerilla army. The only thing they can do is symbolize the resistance and hope they can get the majority of the vote. So with violence you give them an excuse to stay.

Selection into goverment is choosen behind closed doors and paid off. The only policital party that remains mainly republican is the Replublican Sinn Fein. They havn't got a huge vote system. The only way is guerilla warfare from Oglaigh na heireann. When Oglaigh na heireann done the bombings on canary wharf the british intelligance came to the knees and begged the army council to stop the bombings and have a peace treaty and pay the IRA leadership if they done it. Now look today it happened sold there country out once again. Now as I am typing its a whole different system with Oglaigh na heireann and the british goverment cant penetrate them :84: The war will never end until the brits are out.

Mate, most Irish in the North prefer peace to a united Ireland. Most don't back the remaining 'successors' to the PIRA. That would make them an illegitimate army not representative of the Irish people of Northern Ireland. As for the argument that the descendants of Scots-Irish being required to go home, that is an eerily similar argument to the one that calls the Irish-bred Scots to go home.

If new paramilitant republicans do not represent the catholics but for a small minority, can they claim legitimacy? I think not. As for when the provos 'sold out' and became political, their transformation was in conjunction with changes in Catholic public opinion which saw support for the armed struggle greatly relax. I've researched and written papers on the connection (albeit, whether they are decent academia may be up for debate:icon_mrgreen:)

As for the Famine? One of the great tragedies of European history. The only blesseng to arise out of this was the spread of Irish culture to the far reaches of the world where it will be immortalized by its huge diaspora populations. That is little consolation, though, for the 1 million innocents (at least) who were robbed of life. An outrage and black mark on English history.

P.s. that seamus guy who is posting is off his * rocker.

I know the north doesnt want a united ireland. I know paraliment dont represent the Catholics its nothing to do with religion once again. Its not catholic people its the republicans and many republicans i know are protestants. I think you have to take on board that the war isnt about religion. Its about the brits to go home.

The famine happened no-one gives a * about it and says "lets move on" :31::31::31:

aye lets move for millions of genocide. :97::rolleyes:

People need to wake up that the british empire are scum always have been and always have. I am scottish and dont recognise myself as a british citizen. If anyone who is proud to be a brit I would want to know why.

An insight into what the English thought of us during our holocaust:

Ireland is like a half-starved rat that crosses the path of an elephant. What must the elephant do? Squelch it - by heavens - squelch it.
    - Thomas Carlyle, British essayist, 1840s

The judgement of * sent the calamity to teach the Irish a lesson, that calamity must not be too much mitigated. …The real evil with which we have to contend is not the physical evil of the Famine, but the moral evil of the selfish, perverse and turbulent character of the people.
Charles Trevelyan, head of administration for famine relief, 1840s

[existing policies] will not kill more than one million Irish in 1848 and that will scarcely be enough to do much good.
    - Queen Victoria's economist, Nassau Senior

A Celt will soon be as rare on the banks of the Shannon as the red man on the banks of Manhattan.
    - The Times, editorial, 1848

That there is a statue of Queen Victoria outside Belfast City Hall shows the staggering ignorance and bigotry of Orangemen.
Someone once said it was akin to building a statue of Hitler in Tel Aviv.
