no way to sugarcoat this....... im beyond anger. we needed european experience to help us in our own domestic league, for the money, to save ourselves from embarassment with the huns in the champs league, and to give us some european experience to have any shot at the champions league next year.

WE'RE CELTIC. THIS IS WHERE WE SHOULD BE COMPETING. WE'RE THE BEST, MOST ACCOMPLISHED CLUB IN SCOTLAND. :47:

sorry, there's no excuse, no matter which way you look at it. not for the manager, the board, the players.... anyway, tomorrow is another day... lets start anew with a refreshing win against the well.. fight hard for the treble. there's always next year.... i just get so tired of saying that. :54:

theres no doubt it is a bitter pill to swallow , we were never good enough to win this competition but to go out against a small dutch team to that score is shocking, i think we need to realise that we are not as big as what we once were and that domestic success is far more important to us than the europa league , especialy for this season , the players have got to take the spl trophy this season no doubt or it will all be for nothing and the cash will dry up , its all chips are in for this season i think , i mean if we dont win it can you really see the board taking in another 10 players and a manager all over again ? dont think so !

This is a stupid and narrow minded as it gets. We need the prestige of playing and performing in Europe. Scotland is fast becoming a footballing byewater!!

dont know if you saw the pre-match thread but he picked 10 of the 11 players that everyone wanted him to pick. there was nothing wrong with his line up.

I am glad someone is looking at the bright side, but if this is a blessing in disguise, it has one great costume.

Who will want to come to Celtic in the last few days of the transfer window knowing they don't have Euro football.

This will be it I think, I remember when McGeady left we where told that the 10 Mil will go on new players. We will be hard pushed to find quality wanting to play for us now after last night. Unless you offer them a salary similar to the one we wouldn't give boruc.

European football is a must ....if for no other reason than it attracts the better players to come to Celtic. It's why the likes of Juarez & Ledley came. So I wonder how they are feeling this morning. If before they signed, they knew there would be no European football, would they have signed? I doubt it. Similarly if The Board knew that Europe would be over before the end of August, would they have appointed a Rookie? I doubt it.
In various threads there a lot of concentration on ... 'well Europe's out of the way so now we can concentrate on the SPL'....which is all fine and dandy, providing the bloke at the top is astute enough to guide the Team to the top.....but there's my problem. I do not question NL's Passion, Desire, Love for The Club, probably as much as yours and mine....but those attributes alone are not good enough. I just hope that the playing Legend does not become the Managerial Leg End. That would be sadder than going out of Europe.

This will be my only post in this thread.

All the talk of "sack the manager", "sack the board", "Sack the tea lady". Its silly. To judge a manager and a team after 6 competitive games is just absurd.

    The defeat last night hurt, it really hurt. I mean we really did not turn up at all. But what the manager did do was start with a strong team. I thought looking at that team we were going to be able to hold our own. What the game and team linup and performance did show us is that;
Scott Brown no matter how well he plays every tenth game, should not be in the team.
James Forrest is a good prospect at best. He was never ready for the game last night no matter how much people love him.
Paddy Mccourt can do his wee runs in the SPL and try mental passes but in the last 20 mins of a game that we are desperate to get back into he needs to think again.
Sammy and Fortune no matter what people say about their under rated work can easily be replaced and should be punted if suitable offer comes in before the end of the transfer window.
    Zaluska is disgusting.
Maloney should have started as when he came on he was the only attacking force that looked interested.

Like people have said there is no sugar coating this at all. But what we can say is that this now gives us the opportunity to push on domestically. It gives Lenny the ability to get this team bedded in good and proper. I think everyone can see that we have the basis of a very good team there. We have Juarez who looks really good. Kayal is a tireless engine with a great pass and shot. We have Ledley who in midfield can produce a good standard week in week out. We have Hooper who can score a Lot in the SPL to gain confidence and experience to be ready for the Champs League next year. Big Danny can keep us together at the back throughout this season. In James Forrest we have a real star who if given time to develop can become a great player for us.

What the team need now is for the fans to show their support. Get behind the team. Prove to them that we can be their 12th man all season and encourage them. Dont get on their backs every 2 mins.

Its going to be very interesting seeing the next home game against Hearts. How many will turn up? How many empty seats will there be? Its ok saying we need a run in Europe for the finances, but what about selling tickets for the games? The brings a lot of income in yet the fans dont seem to bothered about not turning up to watch their beloved team.

I for 1 will be backing Celtic all season, I will be there most games when work allows it. I will be singing my heart out. I know this team has the makings of a good season in them and I will be supporting them to make this happen. As the song goes "Faithful through and through" and I intend to be.

    Hail Hail:50:

In all honesty i was gutted to see my team under-perform so much last night(i was drunk and * off so i deliberately did not post last night:icon_mrgreen:).

however this morning i can see positive signs: Home games would have been moved to a sunday after Europa games so it will be good for the Irish and other travelling support as home games will stay Saturday's, generating more ticket sales etc..

The fact that we have at least 6 games less to worry about playing.

We can concentrate solely on the league this season( and maybe a domestic cup?)

Europa league does not generate a whole lot of money anyways?

We dont have to see any more away game humiliations for at least another season:rolleyes:

Hopefully this game will have given Lennon an opportunity to realise who will cut it in his team and who is not fit to fight for the Celtic jersey.

Lennon will take an education and experience from his first European foray.

Awrite we have lost a few bob in revenue but we are able to cope with that.

This IS a blessing in disguise because the team is NOT ready to compete in Europe yet,.......would you like to see more horror shows like that this season??

Nope. Player sales can make up for the lost revenue. ie, McGEady's money if not speant should just about cover that. Also there is Fortune going, I would say Sammy is going and maybe Brown. Then only bring in Stokes and Maybe that other Israeli bhoy then the rest can cover what we have lost. We have lost out on 7mil max and winning the League this year could get us 20mil min next season from Champs league.

There you have it not so doom and gloom.

    Just back the team please

Was thinking this myself. The SPL was always the priority and nothings changed. Yes we were pish in Europe last night but in the SPL we're looking good. People need to realise that at the moment the SPL is our level.

in one yes. IF we are going to continue down this road then at lest it gives them vital experience . the huns will get a thumping in that group but that doesnt mean the money aint handy . .

and your theory theory that we can absorb is a lot of * . yes it
can be asorbed through mcgeady but we are meant to improve and revenue will improve us .

thats why we buy season tickets in advance . buy replica shirts etc etc

we are in reality using our savings ~( player transfers ) to pay our debts ( failure in europe ) . that is not a great business model and certainly not one structured for growth. a couple more seasons of that youll have a team worth * all, not doing anything in europe then what do you do ????????? its a slippy slope and we need to get off it quickly

    Spot on mate!!

The only people who i feel sorry for at the moment is the travelling support who have paid hundred of pounds to go and watch that dross last night. They deserve better!!!

Personally, i feel that this early exit can only strengthen us as a team.

That's a bit contradictory of yourself is it not??

Listen mate, i'm not saying we can afford to go out of Europe like this every season, of course we cant.

Winning the league this year is THE priority, especially for revenue.

Sometimes in life mate when the going is hard you have to rob Peter to pay Paul, it's not ideal but it has to be done.

We have had a few tough years and the Board, Lennon etc are trying their damdest to drag us out of this hole.
