    pick one

spending 2-3 million on a player over 30

    spending 50K + a week in wages

Do you honestly believe celtic will buy gravesen ?

Don't think i'm anti celtic or anything , I'm just being realistic and facing up to being in a lower league (SPL) in european standards and the chances of bring world class players to CP are slim at best

    I wish I was wrong

2 million for a player as good as Gravesen is reasonable, and we won't pay 50k a week, and not many EPL clubs would pay that either. We can pay him a good wage (maybe 30-35k a week) and offer champions league football + silverware.

He wasnt talking about this season but anyway

Honestly, I can see Celtic making an contract offer, the £2M asking price is not the issue at all, and Gravesen will turn it down to play in the premiership again. The CL wont be enough to lure him to play in the SPL and he wont like a performance based contract which is what Celtic will be offering.

Here is to hoping im wrong :/

the problem is greendave , there are some (I rekon about 8 - 10) that could pay more than that per week

and I don't know what everyone else thinks but "playing CL" isn't as big a pulling power as it used to be ! IMO

He's a great/could be great player and would walk it in the SPL , but IMO it's not going to happen

Look at the wolves senerio, were deperate for a LB and were "negoitiating" over the 600K fee

He might drop back to the wage, or close, that he was on at Everton, how much was on he on at the Toffees?

here we go on a pointless task

Teams that could offer 30 - 35k in the epl

    Arsenal
    Man Utd
    Chelsea
    Spurs
    Liverpool
    Blackburn
    Newcastle
    Portsmouth
    Middlesburgh
    Villa

Do you want me to go on

It doesn't prove / unprove (if that's a word) anything

My main point it he'll pick a EPL team over Celtic anyday (as would any world class player) because it's perceived that the EPL is the king of leagues (Another pish statement in my opition)

We need to get a grip of the real reality, that is picking up players on either bosman, loan or raiding SPL or championship sides

and let me say this "I WISH I WAS WRONG" and I wish we could compete with the (SO called) european elite on bringing players to celtic, as when we do they become celtic

Make up your * mind, is the EPL the promised land or not? As for your 10 - Blackburn, Pompey, Boro and Villa might push the boat occasionally but in general Celtic could compete with the wages on offer at these clubs. None of the top clubs appear interested in signing Gravesen so why not us?

Some people like to ignore the reality and like to think that Celtic can compete regularly, financially, with Premiership sides.

We have an outside chance of getting Gravesen, Celtic is not his 1st choice. I hope Lawwell sticks his neck out and gets him

I never suggested the epl was the promised land (it's not in my opition) but players seem to think it is (look at stan ..... he'd give up Celtic for * who ..... any * that would pay the transfer , thats who)

Listen everyone has there opition and I have mine and you have yours ,

All I'm saying is wake up and smell the biscuit tin.. that's a reality

If I was wrong ....tell me why when were DESPERATE for a LB for at least 5 years IMO we can't spend the money on one, One was deperate to come but we * about over a couple of thousand grand, and what are we left with ...

could be the best right back celtic have had for 10 years playing at LB because we'll not spend some * money

If Gravesen comes fair enough if he doesn't so be it but at least Lawwell came out and said we had a chance the same with JFH but we missed out on him coz of HIS greed,Your saying Stan will give up I don't think so m8 2 games 2 goals and it looks like he could be staying and i think Gravesen wouldn't come if Stan stayed eh but what do i know only my opinion

    update:

Gravesen closer to exit from Real

Thomas Gravesen's agent is in the UK for talks about a move for Denmark midfielder from Real Madrid.

John Sivabaek would not confirm which club or clubs he was talking to, but it is believed Celtic and Newcastle are both in the frame to sign Gravesen.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has previously admitted his interest but is concerned by possible wage demands.
"We would have to have a look at it, but there would have to be some homework done on wages," said Strachan.
"We would like to try and keep him within the structure that we have got here just now.
"But I think it's unfair to speak about anybody who is not here, it is unfair on the team, the player and our fans."
Celtic were last week said to be one of four possible destinations for Gravesen.
Real Madrid have told the 30-year-old he can leave for any club willing to pay their £2m valuation.

Newcastle are interested......They are a BIG club maybe not in terms of trophies in recent times but still big with a massive following and have never been afraid to spend.

I hope Celtic do sign him i think he is a quality player in his position.

If we do get him then i think we can not level much critisism at the board for lack of spending this season baring in mind the great strides taken in reducing the Clubs debts. We have Jurisek, Sno, VoH, the lad Naylor (give him a chance) Miller, Riordon, Caldwell, all recent signings.....and if we were to pull Gravensen out of the bag then i would say this has been excellent for the Celts.......all things considered. :50:

Might be a more realistic target now Hearts are out of the CL, that's an extra £2M going to Celtic through tv rights.
JVOH and Naylor are great additions, Gravensen would be the icing on the cake, but I still feel we need another CB, Caldwell and McManus are too raw for the CL, Kennedy might not come back the same, and Bobo & Varga have both been caught out at this level.

Don't get me started on Newcastle, as I've said many times before they are an imposter of a club. They are not a big club, they have a big following but so do a lot of other clubs and are one of several teams kept afloat by Sky tv money. If he goes to Newcastle then we'll know that he is motivated by money and not medals.
