Goalkeeper Fraser Forster joins Celtic on loan

goalkeeper fraser forster joins celtic on loan

    Newsroom Staff
CELTIC are delighted to announce that Fraser Forster has joined the club on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.

The goalkeeper becomes the tenth new arrival at Celtic Park over the summer and will train with his new team-mates at Lennoxtown for the first time this morning.

The 22-year-old keeper has earned rave reviews in England during loans spells he had at Stockport County, Bristol Rovers and, last season, at Norwich City, where he worked under former Celtic Paul Lambert. He was voted the Players’ Player of the Year at Norwich for 2009/10.

Fraser will be officially unveiled at a press conference later today. More news to follow on the official Celtic website.

The part in bold - does that mean another player is to follow or am I reading too much into it? Good news that we now have a keeper in, and surely puts the Given rumours to bed.

yeah i'm probably just reading too much into it, it's probaby just talking about a report on his press conference later or something.

If Lambert and Thompson rate this keeper then he is a good signing. I reckon we will sign Westwood on a pre-contract in January as well.

That save at 1 min 50 seconds is amazing.

Can you imagine him doing that in an OF match.

    Instant Hero.

i can see where your coming from but you have to look at it in an other way we got bellers and keane in and we never won the leauge...... thats what you have to think about, gambles that never paid off really nice to see them play for celtic, but think about if we had them from the start of the season, could be a big factor to winning the leauge we need a goal scorer who will get us 20-30 goals a season young hooper is gona be out for 6 weeks not counting the match fitness so it will probs be around 8-9 weeks and who else have we got? what if we get some more players out up front......

7 days left now so will wait and see

From the Sky Sports article (& I'm not saying they know anything) it would seem that Newcastle see him as their future No 1 - in which case there would be no option to buy at the end of the year.

The only way I can see it making sense for us to bring in a young, relatively inexperienced keeper just for a year's loan, is if we have someone else lined up, but can't get him immediately.

Keiren Westwood on a pre-contract come january? Sounds a good result to me. I'm just hoping we have got this thing planned out properly, and are not going to end up back to square one in 9 months time.

Agreed. He's having to deal with a lot of pressure knowing how much we all loved the Holy Goalie. Hope he finds the confidence from somewhere.

A new keeper may be what we need, since zaluska was here with Boruc hed have seen how highly the fans regarded him, and its hard mentally to see how theyl react to you, he isnt playing with any confidence by the looks of it

dont get this deal, why sign someone on loan?, we need a new PERMANENT GK, not a loan deal, who we probably cant buy next year

we dont NEED a permanent keeper, we need a good keeper, loan or permanent it doesnt matter
Newcastle dont want to sell him, because its a loan deal doesnt that mean he wont be as good as keepers we could get on a permanent deal
yes he might not be here next season but if he has a good season and helps us win the title il be happy

In November 2009, Forster was awarded Norwich City Player of the Month.[6] He was named Norwich's Players' Player of the Year 2010 and second in the Supporters' Player of the Year award[12] after maintaining his 50% clean sheet record for the third club in a row. A fantastic season at Norwich was marked by his award of the Macron Golden Gloves Award for the best record of clean sheets in the league.[1

    That sounds promising.
