I think most of us would agree samaras plays and thrives on confidence and support from fans. How do you think he would react if say, the GB or the JB made a banner about him supporting him. Would it have a positive effect on him or would he begin to build pressure on himself?

I think it would probably have a possitive effect on him. I've been really impressed with Sammy this season. Just hope he keeps it up because we all know what his form can be like.

I think this would be a great idea and it would really bring the best out of Samaras

Lol because of his recent form I think he needs to know the fans are behind him if he doesn't already

Professional footballers should be exactly that, 'professional'. They shouldn't need to hear their name being chanted to play well. I like Samaras, good player, who does suffer from inconsistency and low confidence at times but only he can change that, not the fans. They will chant his name when he starts banging them in or playing well, like in recent weeks.

I noticed that as well.. He picked the ball up outside the 18 yard box and ran it out over the bye-line for a goal kick.. The murmours were just about to start and it quickly changed into a rendion of Oo Ah Samaras.. I don't think it was meant as a *-take which some people mentioned on the match thread.. It sounded like genuine support for him on a day when there wasn't much for fans to grumble about anyway..
He just shrugged his shoulders as if it to say * happens and I think he needs to have that attitude so if he does mess up he just blanks it out because there's no doubt when his head has dropped in the past that's him done for the rest of the game.. he won't get support from everyone but he needs to just tough it out and he can win people over rather than allowing the crowd reaction to affect him..

I heard that myself and I've gotta admit...I beamed with pride that the fans at the game didn't react the way they would have last season but gave Sammy a big boost.

The misses was looking at me wondering why I had a stupid, big grin on my face.:icon_mrgreen:

That sounds fine on paper mate but have you ever had 55,000+ fans screaming at you, calling you every name under the sun...all for misplacing a pass? You could be the most professional player on the park but that sort of negativity would affect anyone.

It may have something to do with the fact that this is pretty much his last chance. Hope he does well, I really like him :icon_mrgreen:

I totally agree that the fans are a joke to Sammy - he has always been a scapegoat - people like McGeady would get away with murder on the pitch but Sammy gets booed for the slightest thing. Proof of the treatment towards Sammy was shown when he was named motm against Braga - an accolade he deserved imo. The point i am making though is that a player is paid enough money and is working in a profession where pressure is high so they ought to play to their best under any circumstances - obviously players will have bad games but they shouldn't be so weak of mind that the displeasure from the crowd affects their performances.

I think it would have a positive effect on him.

And seeing how we need a consistent goalscorer at the moment, I think a Samaras banner would give the greatest reward to the team for the work put into making it.

it would have a positive effect on any player. it would make them try harder knowing that if they do then there will be 50,000+ fans chanting their name. plus i think samaras is a confidence player, this could only boost his confidence.

He is one of the biggest confidence players I have seen. Remember at the start of the 08/09 season, up until October when he got injured he was actually unplayable and his confidence was up. Unfortunately, I dont think the GB or the JB would actually make a banner for him just because he isnt exactly everyones favourite. Would be great for him and his confidence if they did but cant see it. Good idea though mate :50:
