Decided to start a thread on this cause I see some discussions on Sammi are comparing him to Paddy.

Anyway, its clear the guy is no athlete - as thrilling as he might be at times!

But whats the issue? I mean he ain't fat, and he is a 'professional' footballer with no long term injury issues that we are aware of. Its his job to be fit. Point is, if he is training with the rest of the team 4 days a week or whatever then his lack of fitness doesn't add up - barring some x-factor we are not fully aware of.

And before anyone says its lack of first team action, other bit part players do not suffer from the same issue...look at Forrest...he doesn't look knackered after 45 mins.

So does anybody have any theories or does anybody know anything about Paddy's extra-curricular activities? Is he a jakie? Does he smoke? Is he too fond of the Guinness? Does he drink in your local?...Discuss....

he has poor stamina and some players just never develop it. Takes a lot of work out with training to improve it. He does have a long term back injury which can flare up randomly from time to time.

I'm sure I heard that his back 'injury' is linked to his core strength, i.e. he is susceptible to injuries easier than others and this impedes his chances of attaining optimum fitness. Training at the level professional footballers train at these days means that the body takes alot of strain. I doubt he'll ever achieve the necessary levels of fitness to be any more than a bit part player. I wish he could though as he obviously has lots of talent. He will be used primarily as an impact player.

Aye there buried in his back garden:50:

Paddy's problemis apparently his 'core fitness' is low and a problem with his lower back.

We have worked this up as much as possible so it's just up to us to see how it works out this season.

I do not think Paddy will make it. I remember reading WGS;s biography and in it he said while he was superfit his son Gavin had naturally very poor core stamina and that limited him as a football despite being talented. I think after all this time we can probably safely conclude paddy's stamina issue is incurable and we should move on and forget about him as a reliable starting 11 player. We need to make plans without him. If he is up to a supersub spot then grand and perhaps in games where we can get away without everyone pulling their weight but forget about him as a core part of our first 11.

paddy seems to be winning his fittness battle, most games this year he,s lasted longer than last year, yet were shill having same knockers about his fittness , in some cases dont madder what paddy doe,s he wont be good enough for the celtic shirt. enjoy him stop him knocking him , ps 60 mins of paddy is better than 90 mins of most celtic players,

Was there not a Q and A with Lennon last year sometime where he was talking about McCourt being one of the best footballers he's seen but his fitness is bad and it's down to a disease or something. I can't remember. If no-one knows the video i'll have a look for it.

Don't think ive got it in for Paddy, Im complaining because its clear for all to see that he has talent. Coupled with the physicality of a fitter man he'd be something else! :50:

If you are part of a team that is serious about success then you should NEVER equate anything to the lowest common denominator, you press for the absolute best that is attainable.

I'll concede tho that he has been looking better of late, so hats off for the improvement, but that needs to continue.

But suggesting that 60 mins of one player is acceptable (no matter how much better they are than the rest) is not an attitude befitting a pro footballer. Thats fine if you wanna use him in the 'supersub' role, but you must always strive to be ready to play 90 regardless of whether you do or not.

The only excuse that merits any sympathy is genuine injury or ailment...speaking of which, the core strength thing is interesting I hadnt heard that.

He has so much talent that its clear that there is a HUGE problem with stamina. It now been about 1.5 years? since WGS signed him. That is one * of a long time to get your stamina up to required levels. It bad enough that WGS. Mogga and Lenny have all rarely started with him in that period. I think we need to stop obsessing about him and move on. If he proves us wrong and gets fit enough then great but I would be totally amazed if he can get fit now when a year and a half has not been enough. I hope its not true he is a heavy smoker and drinker though. That would Frankly make him an idiot if its that that has caused his fitness issues - basically throwing away superstardom.
