would love this...majstorovic is the only guy who talks in the defence at the moment so i think gettin shay in would do us the world of good if majstorovic gets injured again. also he's still a top quality keeper

I don't buy into this injury prone crap, having a serious injury can happen to any player, its not the serious injuries i would be worried about because there's nothing a player can do about them, Given doesn't have a history of repeated small injuries otherwise he wouldn't have played the amount of games he has.

A player is injury prone when ala Maloney they constantly get small hamstring problems that keep them out for 3/4 of the season, Given had one serious shoulder problem that kept him out and that was it, i wouldn't call that injury prone.

Shay Given may not be injury prone however giving his age and the type of injury he has had could presist again. Especially giving the pitches in the SPL and not to even mention the weather can all add to boiling that injury up again, make sense....?

So it makes sense to me to take him on a long season loan with an option to buy him at the end of it.

End of the day we all know Shay loves Celtic, * so does Samaras, however if we do sign Shay on a 3-4 year contract and give him £45-£50k a week and he gets injured, then what...? bend over bhoys. :bbpd:

Shoulder fractures/dislocations predispose to recurrent future dislocations and rotator cuff problems. Given (no pun intended) that Shay will be diving around on his shoulders, a previous shoulder dislocation is not something that should be casually overlooked in a 35 year old goalkeeper who would probably become our highest earner.

It's definitely something that needs consideration.

Caught my attention whilst I was cramming for an orthopaedics exam tomorrow, combining revision and a perusal of TC!

    Given targets Celtic move

Shay Given did not appear in the Premier League last season

Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has tried to engineer a move away from Eastlands by issuing a come-and-get-me plea to Celtic.

Given, who joined City in 2009, did not make a single appearance in the Premier League last season after falling behind England No. 1 Joe Hart in the pecking order.
Now the 35-year-old is desperate to find first-team football elsewhere, and his preference is for a move to Neil Lennon's Celtic, who finished second in the SPL. Fraser Forster, who joined on a season-long loan from Newcastle, was their regular keeper.

"Celtic is a fantastic club but it's too soon to say what's going to happen or if that's going to happen," Given said in the Sun. "But you never say never when Celtic come calling. It's no secret I'm a big Celtic supporter and have been all my life. I don't know what their goalkeeping situation is.

"Ideally, I would like to be playing but it's out of my hands. If Manchester City want me, I've got another two years left on my contract. I don't really know what's going to happen."

whys everyone so quick to sign Given, hes a great keeper ect, but the wages he will be on will be silly money and why not try for Forster? hes younger, looks like he could be a star in the future, i wouldn't take Given, and would keep the wages for someone that we actually need, like a centre-back.

I don't understand your point here. Personally I think now that we do not have a keeper, then that has to be the position filled!!

The Geordies have said Forster is not for sale. Pardew, football genius, has said he will be fighting gor the No.1 shirt there next year. Given has said he will not let wage demands get in the way of comming to Celtic, so it depends on how much Citeh want for him. From what Mancini has said that Given was loyal and a great man, I suspect they won't ask for more than £2mil. It's Given for me, we'll get 3 to 5 years out of him

Given's the type of keeper who could make all the difference in the Europa Qualifier. We need a better defence in front of him however.
