He's one of the few players in the Celtic squad who actually gets you on the edge of your seat when he's runnin at defenders. Ok, so maybe you wouldn't start him away in Europe but against SPL opposition we should let him run rampant. If he stays fit he could be player of the season.

Sometimes his general play has a lot to be desired but when you're a match winner like that then surely we can find space in the first 11. All we need is a solid no-nonsense left-back in behind him and arguably a good GK and we'll be laughing...

he has alot to offer, i dont see why we need to to be any fitter than he is. although he admitantly is more effective as an impact sub compared to starting from the start

Still not sure he has a future at this level. Today was kind of typical. He had one great run that this time did result in a goal but otherwise I thought he was AWOL for most of the game. Not sure if you can start regularly with a player like that at this level. More supersub material if you ask me but I hope he finds this allusive stamina and proves me wrong. Though though that he was nothing on Maloney

Yeah but he won us the game, we wouldn't have had the 3 points without him. Give the guy some credit, im sure if he was Scottish you would:icon_mrgreen:

Gunt he has yet to do it as a supersub. No evidence of setting up or scoring a winner in all his sub appearances. Has done it in all of his starts other than the 3-3 at Falkirk.

Final minute of stopage time at Ibrox, game locked at 0-0, Paddy Mccourt picks the ball up deep inside his on half before beating the entire Rangers team then nutmegs the oncoming Mcgregor!

Carlsberg don't do Paddy Mccourt wonder goals but if they did!

    aye that right:50:

I am only agreeing with what WGS, Mogga and Lenny seem to think judging by the number of times (or lack of them) that they have chosen to start with McCourt. Basically they have made the calculation that the downsides of kind of being a player down a lot of the game outweigh the occasional great run. There was nothing new today - he looked well off the pace but did a great run and goal. That is exactly what he has been like under 3 managers now. Just needs a heart and lung transplant then he can play 90 minutes each week.

paddy is always going to be a double edged sword, he can do the most spectacular things with ball at his feet but can be * poor when you need a bit of teamwork and stability, imo i would play him every week if you had the right formation, paddy power all the way...

The real mystery to me is why a guy so suited to 20 min sub appearances has so rarely actually been used in this supersub role, and that is true of 3 managers in a row. He seems an ideal SS but the reality is he has hardly been used at all.

I love McCourt. When he's not short of breathe he is an absolute GENIUS. He's a real tim, loves this club, and gives it everything he's got.. And when he's on fire, he shuts down every defence in Scotland. :celt_2: Derry Pele! He admits himself that he can't make it the whole 90 minutes. Fair play to him for that. I think we should definitely NOT sell him, and keep him on the bench to substitute in second halves when players are being unproductive/running out of steam. But he should defo get a game against all of the wee teams we play against, as contradictory as that sounds - mebbe not starting, but at least get a game in.

Also.. Lenny's reaction to McCourt's goal today was priceless. He was jumping around like MON in a CL match. Classic! :D

    sounds funny to me tbh.

McCourt, the only guy ever to get injured when someone tried to hug him?

This guy has to be played as often as is possible. There's just something about him. I am willing to overlook the occasions where he may lose the ball or make a little error because we know what he is capable of. He just has to be considered and i hope he becomes a big player for us. How many players are there that can do what he can do ? Also, he's capable of a pass as well, one against Braga stands out where he floated accross the cp pitch onto the chest-perfect too. Also if McGinn can recover and get anywhere near Paddy we will have a decent balance if we decide to play with wingers.

But this guy has 'it'. Simple as really
