exactly, but these guys dont think like that, everything must be cost effective, they wont part with a penny unless there is a return on it and when the time is right for him there will be a return for him. Celtic fan my *

Why dont you invest your money and sort out the club instead of complaining about what other people do with theirs.

:O) Well said. Why is it that these old rich b@stards are ugly as sin? I'd love to be a billionaire and buy Celtic but I'm just too good-lookin.

Well he must be a Celtic fan content only with domestic success(even thats becoming a struggle), cos every year we get found out in the CL, he's got more than enough money to spend on Celtic but for some reason or another he wont, you also said in reply to someones post why dont they invest their money in Celtic, well me and thousands of others do, Ok not on the scale that he does but most of us spend all the cash we have left after paying bill etc on Celtic so we are giving all we have to the club can the same be said about desmond, i dont think so.

Another reason why he won't splash the cash is because football fans are fickle as stated by Alan Sugar. If Desmond invests 20 million and we still don;t do well in Europe gues what happens? Fans demand more money and start calling him names. How do you think this would make him feel? You would feel used, not cared for and taken for granted. You would be very angry. Some fans think he HAS to invest money in us but he doesn't.

It's his money, its not fair expecting him to pay our way. We are a business that should be earning and paying our own way. I'm sure there are a lot of other big earning Celtic fans, i.e. Rod Stewart but you don't hear people calling for him to invest simply because he know's better to stay out of the mix. At least Desmond has invested. He's bought shares, doesn't make him the man who has to pay our bills!

well said liamsquire. The club should be able to paid for its own transfer fees, training ground, debt reduction but it isnt. Do we want to be in a situation where we have to do a share issue every season to generate money or do we want to do a cost reduction exercise to fix the problem?

i agree with that ...the celtic family is a broad spectrum of opinions (all of which is entitled to be heard)...I might not agree with you ..but i ll defend to the death your right to say it .....but you do have a very entrenched position ..i.e the boards

So what you're saying is that while everyone else in Europe flies streets ahead of us with their £20M a year TV money, we should just shut up and accept that we're only a business and getting humped in the Champions league every year or scraping into the Uefa cup quarters is the best we can hope for?
Don't get me wrong, I love the training facilities plan and it is the way forward to think about develping our own talent(preferably Scottish) but we don't have a left back, we have no holding strikers and our best player doesn't want to be here. With the Champions league a month away, we need 2 or 3 more players to avoid humiliation and our billionaire major shareholder should be releasing the funds to get them.

Thats the thing though. He doesn't have to. We would love it if he did but it's not likely. If he spent £20 mill and we were unsuccessful this season, next season you'd be looking for more and more becoming more and more critical everytime he fails to take out his chequebook.

A dose of reality is called for. Desmond is the majority shareholder - nothing more and nothing less. Just because he's a shareholder doesn't give you or me the right to say how he should spend his own money.

Yea they are getting more and after a few seasons the difference becomes massive. How do we close that gap? Handouts. Doing that wont attract other investors.

I'm not saying to accept it underachievement, but to change to a club that focusses heavily on youth development isnt done overnight.

I agree that we should be getting 3 more players but i think the club should be in a position to generate cash without doing share issues every season. They are trying to get to that but people want them to take that money and make funds available for this season and screw the long term plan.

Just a thought but, if Desmond were to speculate in order to accumulate by giving a sizable sum to GS to bring REAL quality footballers to the club, guys of good international standing i am positive that the success that followed would have more big investors willing to share in that success.

Everyone wants to be identified with a successful progressive business operation be it football or otherwise. Nothing breeds success like success itself.

Celtic's name like it or not is hardly one any potential big money investor would be interested in at it's present state. It's penny pinching antics are, i am sure now world renowned.....Hardly the fault of the fans. Wanmadtim

Desmond is not the only investor at the club, why dont they pucker up some cash. Why is everyone depending on him to fork out the cash? If all these businessmen matched what DD was putting in, we would be able to speculate to accumulate, have a brilliant team. People are slating the wrong man for the penny pinching
