Every year its the same old story......some celtic fans on here start to believe what they read in the papers regarding player and signing.
Then they run around for days and weeks with there knickers in a twist and get * * of when celtic dont go out and spend 10 to 15 million to sign some player that is just * miles out of our spending power.
Celtic fc can no longer safely spend that kind of money and remain a healthy football club.....FACT.
Bullard and cambell are just looking for the last big pay off before they hang up thier boots and they dont really care who pays....we are better of without them.
Celtic have spent huge money this last year.....dont forget to add what tony spent to lennons spendings.
For a club that gets less than 2 million for winning the league we are pushing the boat a rather long way out.
The amount of fans that are willing to see celtic head in rangers direction ...spend spend spend....is shocking to say the least.

Not interested in geriatric 'Marquee Signings' from England. Davie Weir is the exception not the rule.

We need a striker that will bang in the goals next season, it doesn't matter if he is a marquee signing or not. This lad Hooper seems to know where the back of the net is but he is a bit of a risk and at £2.4m not exactly a cheap one. The reason that I had hoped for a marquee signing or at least a big name striker is that usually these players don't get to be included in that term unless they have been successful over a number of years and are a proven talent, something which we are sadly lacking upfront. It would also show an intent from the board about putting ourselves back on the map and using the financial uncertainty currently surrounding football to move for players that we have bided our time for and not tried to pay over the odds for, conserving money as other clubs gambled with their futures to buy average players for large sums. I know the market prices are not yet as low as we would have hoped, Man City and West Ham and the like are not helping matters but I believe that splashing out £5-6m pounds will buy you a proven striker a * of a lot better than the same money would have two seasons ago. I think the time has come to step up and move away from the championship level player and go for bigger and better players.

No, they are not interested in playing for Celtic. There is precisely * ALL we can do about that.

If campbell comes he will hopefully pass on his years of experience to our defence who at the moment are all over the place making too many mistakes as for bullard dont care if he signs r not

I'd be happy to just get in another left back, backup for Zaluska perhaps and clear out a few duds then call it quits. Too much change in one transfer window can't be healthy.

Its not the cost of these players thats the problem its the wage bill....we could go and spend 5/6 million on a good striker but where will we find the other 6/7/8 million in wages....?
And to spend all that money on one player is very very risky....what if maloney had cost us that sort of money cause he was a epl class player..what use would he have been this last year.
We got ledly for free but his wages are said to be £1.25million a year over 4 years.....thats alot of cash for just one guy.
As we know strikers who get goals cost the earth....we just dont have that spending power anymore.:54:

Whilst it would be great if we got Keane or Bellamy for the full season but dont forget that the two periods they were here before we won a total of 1 scottish cup. Hopefully the team Lennys getting together will play and fight together as a team and not like the gutless disjointed performances last season before he took over.Winning at home is more important,Europe is nice but for now a bonus.

In fairness Flav, I don't think we were ever really promised a marquee signing. What I remember Lenny saying was that we'd sign a proven goalscorer - and Hooper does qualify as that.

In fact I'd kinda rather we didn't sign a marquee name, because the only way we'd realistically get one would be someone who was really past their best, and in that situation you're paying more for the name than you are for actual benefit.

Wouldn't mind someone like Campbell, if the manager reckoned he would be a strong positive influence on the younger players around him. But if we went out and signed someone just for the name, I'd suspect we might be thinking more about season book sales than about the good of the team. :50:

For the Spl we don't need to buy players such as keane or bellamy. The likes of Hooper should more than hold their own in the spl and this year, anything that happens in europe is a bonus. The spl is our main priority and i believe the quality of player we have brought in is very good. I'm not going to get hung up on a "Big name signing" as big names aren't all there cracked up to be and i am very satisfied with who we have brought in already. I do however understand why you are angry because if Neil promised a marquee signing then we really should be getting one. He shouldn't have promised anything.

Having said all that, I'd cream myself if we signed Riquelme. :56:

£25k a week is not much money for a good player in football terms. It is only down south and the top Spanish and Italian teams that have players on wages £40k+ and I am not advocating that we go and pay anyone anywhere near that amount. But proven goalscorers from top leagues will play for £25k a week.

For us it just comes down to finding the good players before they are proven. It's our only option these days along with developing youth.

im taking into account what your saying we have never spent more than 6million for a player EVER...so nobody expects Celtic to spend 10-15 on a player!

but the fact remains that almost every window (especially the january window just passed where we gained more capital than spent check it)we bring in either more or enough money through selling to cover the incomings that is the way forward for Celtic what im saying is that if McGeady is sold i want to see that money re-invested in a big name player nobody wants to see Celtic in Rangers position for those of us old enough to remember the early nineties we've been there i've been there through that * and have no desire to repeat it!

and as for it being a media generated headline check out Lennys interviews shortly after getting the job when he himself stated the need for a Keane type player, gather some info before slating anyone else for their view!!!

i no that celtic say they can afford a say 6.9 millon sriker . if they stopped signing midfielders and bought one good striker how could they not afford abig salary . the amount of money celtic make ayear is massive .they would tell us anything to sellseson tickets.

maybe a lower profile one will turn out to be just as beneficial as a bigger name.

Amazing that our record signing is Sutton for 6 and their is Flo for 12. That sums a lot up currently if you think about it
