Can't say I'd be happy at seeing Hinkel leave but to be fair to Lennon, he's trying to bring in cash for guy's who have 1 year left on their contract and who's value will plummet in the next few years.

Good business sense, providing all money is reinvested in the squad.

    Onwards and upwards, bhoys!

Hinkel told to consider offers to leave Celtic | Football | STV Sport

Andreas Hinkel says he could be the next player to leave Celtic, after being told he would have to consider any offer the club accepted for his services. The German right-back has one year left to run on his contract with the SPL club, prompting them to consider cash rather than lose the player on a free next summer.

New boss Neil Lennon looks to have already covered for the potential loss of the former Stuttgart defender, bringing in South Korean Cha Du-Ri to play in the right-back position. Mark Wilson and Paul Caddis are also available in the position, suggesting the Hoops have plenty cover should Hinkel be on his way.

Hinkel, who joined in 2008 from Spanish side Sevilla, says he has held discussions with Lennon over his future and says he has been told to consider any offers which come his way.

“The manager has talked about the players with just one more year left,” Hinkel told the Scottish Sun. “He has spoken to me about that.

“I know I have just one more year and if there is an offer or something else I have to think about it, but so far there is nothing.”

Hinkel has played outside of his home country for four years, leaving the Bundesliga for Sevilla in 2006. Borussia Dortmund and Hertha Berlin were both linked with a move for his services back in January and the defender says he would welcome a return to Germany, but isn’t ruling out a switch anywhere else.

“Yes, I would go back to Germany. I have always said I would have no problem with that. But I am not just open to Germany, I am open to another country as well.

“But so far there is nothing. I can't say if I will leave soon. At the moment there is no contact from other clubs and because of that I am still here. We will see at the end of August, that's the honest answer.

“I just do what I always do. I just try to do as well as I can. I train well and I have a contract with the club for one more year.”

Totally underrated player, been a solid if unspectacular performer for the last few seasons, but still Cha looks good enough to step in so it's probably better we sell now rather than him leaving for free at the end of the season.

Definatley mate, same with Boruc, but I can see the business sense behind it.

There's a new era upon us! :50: Time for some new stars to shine.

Surely a good alternative to selling everyone on the last year of their contract is to offer some players new ones. Wish we would keep Hinkel

Who is to say that Celtic have not offered him a new deal and he rejected it, we only know what the papers say, so i trust lenny,he has our club at heart, if he is selling players in the final year of there contract there is a reason.

He may be on to much money to offer a new deal. I mean if Cha signed on 20k and Hinkel is 25k then he will want improved terms which means maybe 28-30k and the club wont pay that as Cha for me is better and on less.

Like another poster said. "A new era is upon us" Let Lenny do his thing and back the team all the way 100%

Lenny has our club at heart so we should all get behind him and give him our total backing and trust him and his signings

No chance of Cha replacing him!!! Have seen Cha for many a years now here in Germany and I hate to say it, but he's not very good!

But maybe he'll proof me wrong, I would be happy about that!

He's the complete opposite to that.

Both Hinkel and Boruc would have been offered acceptable contracts and the pair want more so i'm happy punting them a year before we get nothing for him.

I agree with this. No one is bullet proof at Paradise anymore. As it should be.

I had a feling this was on the cards - Cha and Jaurez can both fill in at right back so it wouldn't surprise me if we tried to cash in on Hinkel with 12 months left on his contract. One of our better players nonetheless and I would miss him.

Hinkel is away in my opinion, the board wont let him go on a free next season.

Good business we are in the spl we cant afford to let players like hinkel leave for nothing.

Hinkel has been one of our best players so I'm struggling to imagine Cha will be better. I really rate Hinkel but he looks to be on his way out so all the best to him. Just hope Cha can be a top assister, good in defence, and stay fit for entire seasons like Hinkel has for us.

I would rather Hinkel signed a new contract as if he leaves and Cha gets injured we don't have suitable cover. Jaurez I know but then we are weaker in midfield. I think this season we may have a very strong starting 11 and then not much in the way of cover. (thankfully the huns have nothing at all for backup)

To be honest I never really rated Hinkel, let us down in a few big games.
