I don't see how anything I said disagrees with anything you said except perhaps your last sentence, which depends on what we both mean by "shut off". I was arguing America isn't closed off to the rest of the world as Celtic_Jorge seemed to be insinuating, in the sense that it is a singular culture festering out on an island apart from the rest of the world. So we seem to be agreeing more than disagreeing.

We were talking about the cultural awaraness of Americans (I do not like to generalize of course, there are intellectual people everywhere just as much as there are ignorant people everywhere).

So you would agree that because of America's dominant position in the world, the awareness of Americans might be low, despite the internet and despite the fact that you find Americans all over the globe?

And to stay on topic, I do find the American commentators very interesting. It is very different from what I am used to hear.

They didn't understand the impending doom of Hitler until Pearl Harbour and his impending declaration of war so they are hardly going to understand the concept of football as the Europeans know it.

lol no not really, im not really that patriotic...but i dont think calling the commentators stupid is fair. Soccer broadcasts are relatively new and it will take time for the quality to improve

"Rollerball PK going out for a corner and these guys are hustling with the laserbeam passes after an upper body challenge. triangulating all over the offensive sect-OOOOOR!!! Back to you for Sportscenter up to the minute right in the middle of the game."

The other thing that did my head in was the fact that they never tell you when substitutions were made and who came into the game until five minutes after it happens. They show 40 replays of a header over the bar and don't tell you who's in the game. I'm not optimistic about it getting much better considering the commentary in all of our other sports is turning into a bag of bollacks as well. Mute button is very handy
