I like Samaras I really do, I think people interpret his attitude wrong, I think he really does try and care, to the point where he becomes panicky, and that's when the mistakes are made. Look at the crowds at the end of the season, it's a MASSIVE exaggaration to try and claim all the fans were booing him ,that's bullshit. They were booing a lot of the team because they were playing terribly, and Samaras was a striker who wasn't scoring, so it was frustrating. But don't fool yourself into thinking "AWK OUR SAMMI IDN'T APPRECIATED BY DA FANS, DEY BOOED HIM WHEN HE PLAYED SHITZ", because if he plays to the best of his ability, he was, and will continue to be appreciated.

That's the problem in a nutshell. No player can play to the best of his ability on a consistent basis - you are asking Sammy to do something which no player can do. The best players in the world (kaka, Messi, etc)are able to extend the period of time that they are able to play well - but most mediocre players (like Sammy and Keane, for example) go in and out of form (Keane missed unbelievable sitters for Liverpool and his form deteriorated in front of goal at Spurs).

When players are out of form, that's when they need the support of the manager and coaching team to help the player find his form and the fans need to play their part too. The fans must stop getting on the player's back whenever there's a misplaced pass - we need to support the player through a period of bad form even if that means clapping the player for a missed effort to help him regain his confidence, not cursing and abusing him to further undermine him.

Sammy has had similar dips in form as Robbie Keane but has suffered much more abuse for it......in fact, Keane has often given the impression that he's "too good" for the club and wanted exhorbitant wages to stay with us even though his form has taken a downward spiral ever since he left Spurs for Liverpool (Redknapp knew to let him go and Benitez didn't think he was much Kop either).
If anything, Sammy has shown a greater loyalty and desire to play for our club than Keane but our fans ignore this and they support Keane over Sammy ....madness.

I have to admit, Sammy does seem to truely enjoy playing here despite the abuse he gets; i think he has his flaws yes and he can be so frustrating because he is capable of more but some of the abuse he gets is scandalous; Keane was obviously untouchable, one because he was fantastic while he was here and the simple fact that he was irish so a vast number of fans immediately idolized him based on that; i'm not irish, but i loved keane aswell simply because he is a class player....and maybe a wee bit coz he's irish and it winds up the huns! :84:

could be said sammy has had his chance though he seems to be really doing well in the pre season games so far; though if a decent bid comes in for him in the 2million region he'll be gone no doubt, especially if we are signing this guy hooper?

He was a class player. Redknapp, Benitez and Mowbray can't all be wrong....He needs to get real and stop demanding super-high wages for his decreasing capabilities......I was disappointed in him when he didn't accept a wage cut to stay with us, i thought a man of his ancestry would take a wage cut to play for Celtic. It seems a Greek has shown more loyalty to our club than an Irishman, which i find difficult to accept. What is even more difficult to accept is that the young Greek who has shown exceptional loyalty and love for the club is consistently abused by his supposed "fans" whereas the downward spiralling Irish prima donna is loved even though he's shown our club the finger basically......

^^ Even when he's scoring, his efforts are still downgraded. He simply can't win with a significant number of our fans. Sammy, time to go somewhere you'll be appreciated. There's no pleasing some people. Good Luck son. We'll do just fine with the formidable, tried and tested, goal-scoring machine of Fortune and Rasmussen :50:

I wish Sammy would just learn that playing the easy ball SOMETIMES is allowed.

If you think Samaras isn't good enough fair enough, but currently it's Ras and Fortune not pulling the weight so why aren't people directing criticism at them instead? Not that I'd promote that because I'm happy with the 3 of them and would like 1 more big signing to make 4.

i would be very happy we all live in a dream world if we think we can lure Bellamy and Keane here wake up and face facts we can not sign these players due to there wages and fee's .

If he plays it easy, he's accused of playing too many sideways balls and not providing penetration. When he plays more incisive but riskier balls, he is accused of not playing it simple. He simply can't win. Whatever Sammy does, the decision that he's a powder puff, lazy, inconsistent player has already been made. He needs to score 40 goals from beautifully executed volleys and mazey runs next season to change fans' perception of him and even then, he'd be accused of not scoring enough with his head...

Read more threads and posts and you'll find there's more than enough criticism for Fortune and also a growing criticism of Rasmussen of late , especially his mobility.. People are basing their frustration on Samaras over a 30 month period.. They've seen the very best he can give us and then the dire performances that follow it and can't fathom out how the guy can be so unpredictable except to think he goes hiding in some games and doesn't have the heart for it when things gets tough..
As you say those things can be said about other players also which is the fault of the previous two managers for going with such a hit and miss starting 11 over the previous two seasons where the majority of the players look around for inspiration and direction from a leader and find there isn't one there.. 11 players left to their own devices is definately not somethng to bring out the best in Sammy because I'd say he's a team player rather than an individual.. Even after Keane and Rasmussen arrived I think Sammys return for the season was already used up..

IMO there's very little between what Samaras and Fortune offer us and it's probably due to the fact Sammy's been here for longer that he gets judged as having had a fair crack of the whip , there's talk of money on the table for him , Lenny has talked about him being a bit of an enigma , and he's going to be out of contract in a year so that's probably why there's talk of him being shipped out.. If he'd been playing in a team that was reliable for scoring goals over the last 2 seasons then there would be less issue over his performances as his goals to games ratio has been decent , but because like Fortune he's classed as a forward/striker (based on individual return) he's got to come up with the goals when it matters and neither of them have been doing that reliably so it's the managers call..

Im sure Lennon is the right man here, im sure he will stay now but when the season starts and he's back to his lazy ways Lennon will give him a piece of his mind and if he still puts out rubbish displays i sure we'll punt him in January.
