McGeady's best position is left wing imo although that has been hindered by the fact our left-back for the past 5 years has been unable to cross the ball.

All thing's considered with Hinkel behind him he's best on the right, but in the perfect world the left. He doesn't have the intelligence to play behind the striker.

How do you know? That's a bit of a harsh statement to make considering he's been played there once to my knowledge and he was outstanding in that match (league cup final against the huns 2-0 after extra time)

I think it would be worth a shot during preseason to see how he reacts to being given more freedom in a central role, it could be the incentive that he needs to improve his game.

Well strictly speaking I don't know just voicing my opinion having closely watched McGeady for 5 seasons or so.

But of all McGeady's traits his game intelligence must be the standout weakness. He's frequently shown an ability to pick the wrong pass or try to run himself into trouble.

The classic "behind the striker" player is epitomised by decision making. Dennis Bergkamp or these days Ozil and Snjeider. Fantastic technique and creativity but specifically being in the right place at the right time, and doing the right thing at the right time.

For me McGeady is a classic winger - head down, beat his marker and get a cross or shot in. He's not a creative passer.

So while he has his uses behind a striker (free role on the counter attack and can run at defenders playing high up the park) it's surely not his best position, and one good game against Rangers isn't enough to convince me otherwise.

I think it's important for the thread not to rely too much on the original post, otherwise it becomes predictable. :56:

I take your point about over-reliance on McGeady btw - but don't you think this has partly been due to a lack of creativity in the other players? For me the problem really became apparent after Naka left...

If Aiden comes out and says "I want to leave" then sell him simple as that but nothing less than £15 million lets get as much money as possible off the clube he's going to. Also heard about the rumour him going to Aston Villa on a swap deal for Heskey! But I can only see them coming in for Aiden if Milner leaves for City. Just my opinion lads :celt_2:

There is literally no chance of Celtic getting 15mil for Aiden :31:

Well all they need to do is say give us £15 million or go look somewhere else. Who they meant to replace him with if they only get 8-10 million or anything in at region? any ideas who can be brought in to replace him?

I still reckon wee Andy Driver would be a cracking signing, anyway imo we don't need a direct replacement for Aiden, we're gonna be set up diffrently next term, and even if we don't change formation, we have players such as Fortune, Mcginn, Maloney, McCout etc who can play there

Aiden has had a few off field issues with Boruc, Strachan, Mowbray, Lennon etc...His biggest ally at Celtic was Tommy Burns. TB was the guy who went to his parents house to discuss Aiden joining the hoops at 16. TB was his mentor, the guy who guided him through the first few years of his career. Since Tommy's unfortunate and untimely passing away, Aiden certainly does not seem to have re-kindled the level performance we were used to seeing in the three in a row run.

If we get offered good money for him, I'd grab it and say thanks and bye...but if not I hope Lenny can develop him, in much the same way as MON developed Henrik.

Agree. Celticfc.net isn't reliable at all, and Johan Mjällby is a well-known liar.

It would trust The Daily Record over Celtics own official site, and our Assistant Manager every day at week!

If you say 15mil or look somewhere else, they're going to go look somewhere else, I'd soil myself if we got that much for him.

Mcgeady in my opinion should go!

His crosses and shot arnt the best and not even what we expect. Sometimes hes bad and sometimes hes good. Hes not consistant enough and thats not good enough. Sell him!

No one was consistent last season other than maybe hinkel, all this crap "hes not good enough" is utter nonsense hes been a regular starter for us for the last 5 seasons so he clearly is, and other than last year hes been a * of alot more consistent than the majority of our players that have come and gone.
Agreed his shooting isnt the best and his crossing isnt inch perfect but its not as bad as people make out, it would also help if we had CFs who could head the ball, hes put in loads of decent crosses which our forwards through the years have either missed or not bothered jumping for, christ he had 16 assists last year which is saying something considering how bad we were.
Whether he improves or not he's still by far the best player in this league.
