Champions League Weekly: Celtic Transfer Rumours: Freddy Montero to the SPL?

Wouldn't even know if this could be considered a source but it's an actual sight saying we are interested and not some announcer or random rumour, and its recent.

I really hope this happens Fredy is an amazing forward and not because he's on my FM team because I live in the States and force myself to watch the MLS and he is one * of a Forward, Seattle is my favorite MLS team to watch because of Montero, Ljunberg, Keller and they actually have fans.

Hope this is true, is still young and could be an instant starter for us.

That is what we are looking for, instant starters. There are some really good players in the MLS like Landon Donovan etc, and if Fredy is up to the mark, then why not ?

Not to mention he is only 22, and MLS clubs dont have control over Transfer sales, the league does, Clint Dempsey was signed for around 2 million pounds I think, Jozy Altidore has been the most expensive signing in MLS history and his was about 6.5 million, and he was considered the future of American football, huge for the MLS to give away. So basically what I'm getting at is Fredy would be cheap and wouldnt command much in wages.

Dempsey and Altidore are two fabolous players, and if Montero turns out to be in that mould, we would have found a diamond amongst the dross.

We have to look at all the markets that are available MLS included, as we seen how well the USA did in the World Cup, and they were a tad unlucky not to have gone further. Any way we will get a chance to run the rule over Fredy when we play Seattle this summer.

He's a great player. I'm not sure if he's built for the SPL, but he's got some pace and can finish. Him and Rasmussen would contrast well.

I already made a thread on him last week, the announces in the Seattle Philadelphia game mentioned that we were looking at him

Not really. He's pretty strong for his size but goes down intentionally a bit too much. Just look at the size of the average player he goes against in MLS and you'd be pretty impressed with how strong he is. MLS is not a tactical league at all but it is physically brutal and refs allow even more than they do in Scotland.

Pretty good. Seattle has a couple of goalscoring options (Zakuani, Montero, Ljungberg) but not a lot of goalscoring providers but even then he hovers around a 45-50% strike rate per game. That's pretty good in MLS since it's a lower scoring league. And technically speaking he's a fantastic striker of the ball and can hit really good free kicks.

Yep. They've produced a really good generation of talent that's coming through right now. Many people were surprised that Montero came to MLS because he was being scouted by La Liga sides and bigger sides from South America.

Quite happy with that free kick. If this is true Lenny's wanting a set piece threat to be constantly present on the pitch.
