Zheng Zhi & Koki Mizuno leave Celtic

Zheng Zhi has left Celtic for Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande in a deal believed to be worth $736,000.
The midfielder joined Celtic on the final day of the August transfer window last year and made a surprise and impressive debut at Ibrox where he was subjected to a fearsome attack from Kyle Lafferty.
Despite that early impact he failed to impress or establish himself in Tony Mowbray’s plans- starting just nine SPL matches.
Zhi scored his only Celtic goal in his final appearance for the club, turning sharply to net in the 2-1 win away to Hearts on May 9.
Guangzhou Evergrande clearly have some money to spend and have also signed Brazilian striker Muriqui in a $3.5m deal from Athletico Mineiro

I was just about to put something up askin, cause i saw it on wikipedia, and wanted it to be confirmed.

I thought he shoulds have got an extra year to show his worth

TBF he was free & this piece suggests we might get 1/2 million for him, so we've made money according to this.

I thought he was a good player, played out of position & unused to kick & rush SPL footy.

im sick of us signing players and then getting rid of them * nilly it makes the team feel like its full of strangers and theres never anyone at a club long enough to strike a bond with the fans e.g. look at martin o'neils team i think its safe to say we all look back fondely at them and probs believe most of them deserved their own testimonial cos we bonded with them and knew wht they wer and wer'nt capable of. Nothing wrong with strengthening our team by signing players and letting others go but its just too hectic nowadays.

 

He was only signed on a 1 year contract and by all accounts his contract was up last month...so no transfer fee i'm afraid

 

I guess the money is what he gets in the contract. I don't think Celtic will get a penny.

But still better than paying his wages if he isn't playing.

liked zheng but he was always easy to leave out

 

2 guys that had motm performances on their debuts and hardly featured after. Hope they do well elsewhere though.

 

heres hoping that Lenny is trying to free up some wages for a big arrival :icon_mrgreen: , although neither player had a consistent show of form or run in the team, they both had their attributes. Personally Zheng became one of the players i would should for to be brought on when things weren't going our way as he added a different dimension, pitty i sit in the Jock and TM couldn't here me, who knows, if he did, we might have won the league
