Hinkel is a far superior player than Mulgrew. Hinkel is great going forward and pretty good at defending, Mulgrew is decent going forward and * at defending. If Mulgrew wasnt a tim no-one would want him. He is similr to naylor except that naylor is a better footballer and defender.

He was released because he was not good enough when Celtic were a good team during the MON era or back end of it and to be frank we need to be aiming at that level of team not average SPL players! This is *!

4 years ago when he was only 20! Remember we released Shay Given aswell, doesn't mean they're going to be bad players!

Nonsense, utter nonsense. Your telling me that because there's a recession we have to sign duds like Charlie mulgrew. * off!! Biggest pile of * ever. Under no circumstances will mulgrew ever be a good signing.

If this is celtics attitude settling for 3rd rate players then they have a * cheek charging us the same price of season ticket they did when we were signing guys like hartson, Sutton, Thompson, Nakamura.

Clearly the standard has dropped yet they still charge top dollar for us to sit and suffer through abysmal performances by 3nd rate players many of whom should never be near a Celtic jersey. Yet they wonder why they have only sold 30,000 season tickets and are having to do pish like seat of the day

    Slight difference is there not?

Shay very quickly established himself as 1 of if not thee very best gk in the premiership and his country's number 1.

Mulgrew flopped in the championship at wolves (bear in mind their previous Lb was Naylor so he hardly had a lot to live up to) was sent out on loan and then released. Then signed for Anerdeen were he was a regular target if the boo boys due to how bad he was. During this time Scotland have had no Lb of any quality(Naysmith and davidson) yet he's never had a call up. Says it all really

Ryan he wasn't the target of boo boys. That's completely untrue.

    Fair points, well made :50:

I can only really see him as a wingback in a 3-5-2, as an out & out Fullback I think he gets left out to dry too much to be of any real use.

We could argue about this all day. So we'll just disagree but I know plenty of Aberdeen fans that think he's *.

Bottom line is this; we are competing with Sheffield United and Brentford for the signature of a guy who was released by wolves and who has never had a cap for Scotland despite the fact Scotlands LB problems over the last few years have been worse than ours.

This is the last I'm saying on this thread as I'm bored to tears talking about such an average player as i know within the first month of the season there will be a thread on here about how much of a useless * he is

I simply gave Given as an example that released players can go on to be a success, wasn't comparing the success of their careers. Mulgrew has performed well in the SPL the last 2 years, he's a Tim, be on a low wage and we're getting him for nothing, rather have him that not.

That is the first thing a LB should have, that should be the priority when signing a defender, his defensive capabilites, if he is good going forward its a bonus. One of my really good mates said he was caught out of position more than anyone in the Aberdeen defence last season, not sure if he is just bitter he is gone or if he is exaggerating or if that is the truth.

Here is a point people should take into consideration, say we sign Mulgrew as our Left back for next season, it wont take long for the spl teams to realise (If they haven't already) that if they attack Celtic down the left flank they will have loads of success because Mulgrew isnt very good at defending.

We need to sign left backs who can defend if we want to be successful next season. I dont think he is a step up from Naylor to be honest, Left back imo is one of the key areas of the team that needs improving and if this is the answer I fear the worst.

Hope im wrong and I will hold my hands up if the lad does well.
